"This was hands down the best food and experience we had in Aruba.
Called ahead to get reservations, they weren't needed for just the 2 of us but they still took my name and when we arrived I just gave my name to the greeter outside and he showed us to our table without even looking at a list.
Our waiter rubbed me a little about scaring his reservation person, all in good fun.
Charlies has their own way doing things and you should go along for the ride.
Our server was excellent. Provided us with the daily specials and the apps they had that day.
Beverages were brought quickly. When he noticed he had grabbed a Balashi instead of a Heineken like we ordered he immediately replaced it.
The food was excellent and the timing of the dishes was spot on. It wasn't real busy but they seem to run a tight ship so I would expect it to be the same even if packed.
We had the tuna and the grouper
specials with the added shrimp on top. That with fries, rice and side salads was enough to hold us through to a late light dinner.
We would definitely return!"

"Charlie’s Bar was such a fun and memorable stop on our trip. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with fantastic live steel drum music setting the tone for the night. The food was incredible—especially the coconut shrimp and fresh ceviche, which were both standouts.
On top of it all, the name made the experience even more personal and special since my dad’s name is Charlie. It felt like a perfect connection and added an extra layer of meaning to an already unforgettable evening."

"Our group stopped in for a quick drink after Baby Beach. We knew it would be a quick stop since they close early for private dining. We were so glad we did. The beer was COLD and the atmosphere was fun. The barkeep wasn’t the most joyful person but who is everyday? He was great - like Popeye."

Where To Find Your Happy Spot in Aruba
This bar is a legendary marker in the neighborhood of San Nicolas. It’s been around for eight decades, and the first thing you notice are the tchotchkes that hang on the wall. It’s a well-decorated bar with a reputation for last call lingering into the wee hours of the morning, but don’t be fooled, this isn’t a dive bar per se.

This bar, founded by Dutch couple Charles and Marie Brouns, has been an island legend for more than 70 years. Many people visit just out of curiosity or to study the outrageous decor: banners, pennants, posters, stickers and bric-a-brac cover the ceiling and walls. Though many come the first time to gawk while they sip on a cold beer, Charlie's keeps them coming back with surprisingly good seafood, especially Creole squid and "Shrimps Jumbo and Dumbo." (Dumbo because they got caught!) Chef Charles (the third generation of Charlie's) and Chef Rosalba also cook a mean Argentine-style steak, and their trademark "honeymoon sauce" is fabulous, and hot, hot, hot!
12 Must-Eat Restaurants in Aruba
Known for its terrible service, outstanding seafood and steaks, and cold drinks, Charlie’s Bar has been an island tradition since 1941!. The interior is clad with a collection of miscellaneous artifacts collected over the years and/or provided by its clientele making for quite the eclectic decor. Unfortunately, we only got to experience the “terrible service” part of this Aruban staple since we got turned away by the bartender claiming that they were closed even though we arrived 45 minutes before they were supposed to have closed.
