Passero is praised for its creative Italian and Mediterranean share plates, with standout dishes like arancini and carbonara consistently earning high marks. Diners appreciate the stylish atmosphere and attentive service that makes for a memorable dining experience. However, some guests find the portion sizes to be on the smaller side for the price, leading to them leaving still feeling hungry.
"Thank you to Jacob for making our first time at Passero amazing and listening to my silly jokes. E V E R Y single meal we had was just incredible. Beets, Brussels, Mushroom Pasta, Octopus just amazing! I don’t live in Winnipeg but I’m incredibly impressed with the food they have to offer. What a wonderful experience! Will definetly come back 🙂"

"This place was amazing. For starters (pun intended) I love that all the dishes are shareables. The food was outstanding. Absolutely delicious. Staff was super helpful and attentive. Washrooms were clean. Atmosphere was very cool. It was a night out to remember."

"The taste of each dish was well done but each plate was around $30, there are plenty of other high quality restaurants that serve very similar food for a MUCH bigger portion and value. I was really looking forward to dining here and the photos looked great but was underwhelmed when the dishes were about the size of two of my fists. They bring each dish out one at a time for family style serving. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable when presenting each dish. This restaurant’s atmosphere is quite nice, food is good, however I spent over $100 and left the restaurant still feeling quite hungry. This was a nice upscale first-time visit however, I think I would rather go somewhere else if I wanted quality pasta for the same price and bigger portion."

Having moved from The Forks Market to a larger space on Corydon's Little Italy strip, Passero has continued to impress with its menu of Italian and Mediterranean share plates. Co-owned by nationally acclaimed executive chef Scott Bagshaw and Amanda Coe (who runs the front of house), Passero's new space features lovely details from local award-winning design firm Design Shop, including an open kitchen where you can watch head chef Mitchell Man and his crew in action. Must-order dishes include the beef tartare on a potato cake, mushroom arancini on a bed of green goddess dressing, crispy fried Brussel sprouts with pear and horseradish, and the hand-cut tagliatelle with beef cheek ragù.

WINNIPEG: Canada’s Best-kept Cultural Secret
For modern Italian cuisine, check out Passero, in The Forks Market, a newly renovated hub drawing both locals and tourists. Chef Scott Bagshaw respects traditional ingredients and recipes but adds his own twist. It must be working, because this is one of his three successful restaurants; the other two being Máquè (Asian-inspired) and Enoteca (French/American).
7 Great Restaurants in Winnipeg, Manitoba
I’m doing this a little out of order, as I ate at Passero on my first night in Winnipeg. This Italian-style restaurant is owned by one of the top chefs in the city and is located as a little “hole in the wall” in the Forks Market. Their food is served in a tapas style, and it is recommended to share several dishes between friends.
Where to Eat in Winnipeg in 2024
It turned out to be a swan song for Máquè, which chef/owner Scott Bagshaw closed in 2023 to focus on expanding his equally acclaimed restaurant, Passero. The artfully plated Italian dishes at Passero are guaranteed to impress, while Bagshaw's wine bar Enoteca has made both the Canada's 100 Best and enRoute top 10 in the past.

Passero – It’s hard for me to choose which of Scott Bagshaw’s three Winnipeg restaurants is the best, but this small plates restaurant at the Forks is definitely in the top 3!. 😀 If you come to Winnipeg, you really should visit all three as the menus are different.
