La Cantina Tacos/Urban Taco Bar (I’m not sure what the official name is, to be honest!) is one of our staples that we stop at on our yearly trip because I love the variety of Mexican street food that they get. We always get it to go (tip for families – order it first and then let the kids play at the nearby playground while you wait – one of the best Whistler kids activities), but they have indoor and covered outdoor seating available that you’ll want to take advantage of during your Whistler weekend. The menu is pretty impressive, but I always get the chips and guacamole, a variety of street tacos, and a giant burrito for all of us to split.

You will know that you are not in your average taqueria from the moment you enter this modern, industrial space where even the chairs and tables look like they are made of machine parts. La Cantina also has a dynamic menu that features items such as the tofu taco. You will also find tacos with pork belly in Kao paigu (Chinese) sauce with cabbage and pickled onion and the gluten-free Cochinita, which is Mayan style pulled pork loaded with pickled onion and cilantro pesto.

This Mexican restaurant was located in the building of our Airbnb, so it was easy to visit the first night. The menu labels all allergens, and the staff is happy to help you out. I went with a burrito bowl with pork, and it was quite good!

It’s open for lunch and dinner, but we found it better as a lunch location. The taco’s are cheap, $2.75-$3.50 each. But they’re small, so you’ll need to order at least 4.

Pop in for some quick tacos or a tasty burrito and you will not be disappointed!. A true taco bar, this place has a fantastic atmosphere, great staff and fast service.
