Superbaba (Victoria)

Since opening in 2017, Superbaba has become a downtown staple for eat-in and take-out Middle Eastern cuisine. The aim of co-owner Abdallah El Chami, who grew up in Vancouver, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, was to make his food as accessible as possible, and his success speaks for itself. The herb-filled falafel are fried fresh to order and are available as a wrap, in a gluten-free bowl or salad, or as a side order with a cup of delicious tahini sauce.

Superbaba is a modern Middle Eastern restaurant serving quick and delicious food options for lunch and dinner. They serve authentic sandwich wraps, nourishing bowls, and desserts made from scratch in their kitchen. Choose from the dip and pita with hummus, baba ganoush or labneh served with freshly baked pita for only $4.50, or a side order of falafel (4 balls with tahini sauce) for $6.

Superbaba is a stylish, casual eatery that serves the most amazing Middle Eastern wraps and — the star of the show — the soft, supple pita bread that embraces all the tender chicken thigh and sumac mayo I could dream of. Did I mention the sumac mayo??. The fries come with a side of the mayo for dipping, and you should definitely order extra, because you’ll need it.

Is it just me, or does a lot of the best vegan food come from smaller local shops with limited seating?. One of the best restaurants in Victoria for vegan food, Superbaba is a prime example of this phenomenon. Bright and modern, this counter restaurant from the same owners of the legendary Taco Fino (FYI Taco Fino’s tempura yam tacos are also a must-try).

Brought to you by the guys behind Tacofino and Cafe Medina (Vancouver), Superbaba is one of Victoria’s latest restaurants to open up. Having taken the city by storm these past two months, customers keep on coming. Serving Levant-inspired food with seasonal ingredients, one can get their hands on things like shawarma, falafel, pita and hummus.

Superbaba actually has four different bowls all under $15 dollars but I’m picking specifically the steak bowl. You get half a plate of Persian rice, you get half salad, and then it comes with grilled steak, sumac onions, hummus and pickled cucumbers…it’s a whole lot of flavor packed into one bowl.

(Not fully vegan/vegetarian.) Superbaba deserves a mention for its convenient wraps, bowls and fries. A fast food restaurant, its vegan options include falafel and fried eggplant with pita or salad. It's a perfect spot for when you need filling, tasty food on the go at a reasonable price.

Stop by the super trendy and ultra tasty Superbaba (of Tacofino fame!) for their fresh take on a falafel bowl. Often bustling with locals, this hotspot offers Middle Eastern wraps and bowls that are bursting with flavour. Highly recommend, lots of veggie options too!

Just five minutes’ walk from Global Village Victoria, this place is a great healthy option for those who like Middle Eastern style food. Try their vegetarian falafel or their chicken shawarma. You won’t be disappointed!

Superbaba is a casual restaurant in the heart of the city center. I loved their Mediterranean menu that featured everything from hummus plates to falafel bowls.
