KINGYO IZAKAYA Popped into Kingyo Izakaya for a quick lunch and we went all in on the bowls—Wagyu & Toro, Negitoro Avocado, and Beef Tenderloin Steak. Each one was loaded, flavorful, and worth every bite. If you’re eating your way through Vancouver, this spot should be on the list. 😋 #kingyoizakaya #wagyu #negitoro #japanesefood #izakaya #vancouverdining #604eats #yvreats #eattraylove

Reviews Summary

Kingyo Izakaya is celebrated for its fresh, inventive Japanese small plates and unique dining experiences like stone-grilled wagyu. Diners rave about the high quality of sashimi and creative fusion dishes. While most reviews are glowing, some have noted occasional issues with portion sizes or order accuracy.

"Dining at Kingyo is always a fun and tasty experience. The food is consistently excellent.

The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the ebi mayo had the perfect texture. The tomato kimchi was an unexpected combination, but honestly really good.

Negitoro sushi is my favorite dish that I never skip. Simple, rich, and always satisfying. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is always busy and full of energy, so making a reservation would be a good idea.

Kingyo is the best option for anyone looking for authentic Japanese food with great service in Vancouver."

Chanyoung Kim

"All the dishes were absolutely delicious, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. We ordered a variety of items, each beautifully presented and full of flavor. The hot stone Japanese beef was a highlight—tender and fun to cook at the table—though understandably not quite as rich as what we’ve had in Japan. Still, it was very enjoyable. The service was attentive and friendly, and the ambiance added to the experience with its clean, modern aesthetic and relaxed vibe. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared, and we left fully satisfied. A place we’d gladly return to!"

T Hom

"I had the chance to enjoy a wide variety of Japanese dishes (some with a subtle fusion twist) while dining with a group of friends. Everything we tried was excellent, both in taste and presentation! I wish I had taken more photos, but honestly, I was too caught up savoring the experience 😋"

Entering through Kingyo’s door is like wandering into a great pub in the middle of Shinjuku. Loud and almost always packed, Kingyo is one of the most consistent, and one of the busiest, izakayas in Vancouver. Although you can get sushi, the cooked dishes are the real standouts.

An izakaya-style Japanese restaurant that’s famous for a delicious assortment of small plates, similar to a Spanish tapas restaurant but with tomato kimchi, tuna tataki, crispy chicken karaage and more. This is also an under-the-radar sushi spot with their pressed sockeye salmon with jalapeño mayo being one of my favourites in the city.

What they had to say about it: Can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this sashimi bowl is?.
