On a cold night, which is basically half the year in Toronto, we love to come to Byblos and feel the heat coming out of the open kitchen, where they're cooking up Mediterranean plates like roasted lamb shoulder and truffle pide. Even though plates are meant to be shared, you’ll definitely want two servings of the sweet jeweled rice that goes with basically everything on the menu—especially the aforementioned lamb and their hummus royale with wagyu beef. The cocktails use Middle Eastern ingredients like pistachio, apricot, orange blossom, and sumac, and there’s also an excellent wine list with options from around the globe including bottles from Lebanon.

Byblos is an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant that embraces coastal influences with contemporary technique, on display within each family-style dish flying out of the kitchen. Executive Chef Stuart Cameron has been inspiring King Street West with his culinary skills for years. When I first visited Weslodge Saloon it was the decorum and campy taxidermy aesthetic of the space that left the strongest impression. Patria, his follow-up project next door offered jaw dropping interiors and an authentic Spanish dining experience which had folks bustling for brunch.

Byblos’s take on traditional Turkish manti is the ultimate comfort food that’ll heat you up from the inside when the outside air hurts. This dish pays homage to its regionally specific, time-honoured roots with hand-formed delicate squares of dough filled with smoky eggplant.
