What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Adelaide Oyster House is celebrated for its exceptional oysters, often described as the best in the world, and its vibrant, hip atmosphere. Diners also praise the creative small plates and craft cocktails. However, some reviews note that while oysters are the star, other dishes like tacos and burgers can be inconsistent in quality.
"By far the best oysters I’ve had any where in the world.. nothing compares to the oysters you can find here vs the US. Small bar vibe, friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Easy to become a regular here, especially on 1/2 marg Monday. I love everything on their menu."

"One of our go to spots for drinks and oysters! We always take our friends who visit us here before a night out. Their drinks and appetizers are amazing but tend to be smaller in portion. The servers are attentive and comes by often. Their burger battle entry this year is delicious and worth a top 3 spot (they need to make it a permanent item on their menu). They also have specials on oysters every now and then."

"A pleasant surprise & a treat to one’s palette. Variety of Asian fusion flavours bursting in the mouth, which makes it unique from the rest of the surrounding restaurants. Great quality & selection of Oysters & the spicy tuna sticky rice, kobe beef lettuce wrap & korean fried chicken is a must to try. The afternoon non alcoholic drinks are amazing as well to relax.
A fabulous team of bar tenders, waitresses always smiling, interactive & engage well.
Overall a pleasant experience twice in a row will bring us back for the third time in just 7days trip.
If you are around Water Street, St. Johns you must swing by & try the mouth watering delights.
Cheers to “The Adelaide Oyster House Team” keep up with your unique flavours & twists with huge smiles & laughter."

One of the coolest restaurants in St. John’s, the Adelaide Oyster House is a sultry, low-lit blend of pan-Asian cuisine, super-fresh local seafood and craft drinks. Best St. John's Restaurants 2018
My first experience at The Adelaide Oyster House is still one of the most popular posts on this blog and for good reason. The music is always bumping, pints of local craft beers constantly flow from the taps and oysters shuckers work on overdrive at this busy eatery. Their Kobe beef lettuce wrap with Japanese big mac sauce, kimchi and rice puffs knocked my socks off from day one and is a mainstay — a brief interlude with brunch that fizzled out quicker than a hot frying pan in the sink and a shift in leadership, this spot still serves up the best tuna taco in the city.

Pints of local beer from across the province flow from the taps of this much-loved oyster house on Water Street. Adelaide Oyster House serves up cocktails like the Autumn Sangria with malbec, bourbon, apple cider and clove-cinnamon syrup or the Oyster Stout Caesar. Their fish tacos with breaded cod, avocado, coleslaw, smoky adobo sauce and chipotle mayo are a must-have bite on the internationally-inspired menu featuring miso scallops and tuna poke, or specialty items highlighting local seafood like uni carbonara made with sea urchin and bacon.
GABBY PEYTON: A critic’s pick of the best dishes of 2021 — the second year of pandemic dining in St. John’s
It should come as no surprise that Adelaide Oyster House knows how to treat raw seafood, but this dish was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten from there. When I first saw “scallops and strawberry” paired together on the menu, I was skeptical, but this dish was a triumph of melding sweet, heat and umami. The not-too-sweet strawberry puree had a latent hit of jalapeno and punch of cilantro and cradled the thin slices of raw scallop, topped with the crunch of thin wisps of fried potatoes.

GABBY PEYTON: Dishing out the best meals of 2020 in St. John's restaurants
What once was an export headed for Asia (or stepped over on the beach) can now be found in some of my new favourite dishes. The Adelaide Oyster House featured a special dish with delicate al dente pasta shells bathed in creamy, cheesy, umami sauce: an eyes-rolling-back-in-the-head moment for me. This was the last place I ate before the global pandemic shuttered our restaurants for three months, and my goodness, for “the last meal” it was a damn good one.
6 New places to eat and/or be merry in St. John's
This place has been open for some time, actually, but I only recently visited a few weeks ago and it kinda blew me away. I had tried to get in a few times earlier in the year, but the waitlist was always huge (they don’t take reservations for tables under five people). It’s a real intimate setting: tables crammed in tight, and even a social table for people who don’t mind mingling.
