What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Restaurant Le Clan offers a highly acclaimed fine dining experience, celebrated for its artful boreal gastronomy, impeccable wine pairings, and attentive service. Many guests describe it as a 'feast for the senses' and an unforgettable culinary pilgrimage. However, some reviewers have expressed disappointment regarding the value for money and consistency of certain dishes, particularly concerning seasoning and portion sizes at higher price points.
"Dining at Le Clan was an unforgettable experience. We chose the four-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and each dish was a showcase of local ingredients elevated through impeccable technique and creativity. The wines were expertly selected to complement each course, creating a harmonious flow of flavors from start to finish. What truly impressed us was how thoughtfully they accommodated dietary restrictions—my intolerance was handled with care and precision, without compromising the integrity of the meal. The warm, intimate setting of the heritage building paired perfectly with the attentive and passionate service, making the evening feel truly special. It was my first time there but definitely not my last."

"Le Clan: A Culinary History Lesson (and then some!)
If you're looking for a meal, go somewhere else. But if you're looking for a culinary pilgrimage that will redefine your idea of "eating out," then you've found your Mecca. We went all-in on the chef's tasting menu at Le Clan, and I can honestly say it was one of the most incredible meals of my life.
Each of the six courses was a work of art—a beautiful, delicious love letter to Quebec's heritage, all made with hyper-local ingredients. But what makes Le Clan truly special is the narrative that accompanies each dish. Our server didn't just bring us food; they delivered a story, a history lesson, and a passionate explanation of the "why" behind every bite. It was an experience that engaged all the senses, from the first course to the last.
The service was impeccable—super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and perfectly tuned to the rhythm of our evening. This isn't just dinner; it's a one-of-a-kind adventure. So, if you consider yourself a true foodie, do yourself a favor and book a reservation. Your taste buds—and your inner history buff—will thank you."

"It’s an expensive restaurant. If you don’t want to spend that much money, go at lunch time. Reservations strongly recommended. The kitchen closes at 2 but as long as you’re there by 1:45, they will serve you. That was what happened to us.
For lunch you get soup/salad, an appetizer, and an entree for up to $39 Canadian dollars. You can add a dessert for an additional $5.
The food was great. Strongly recommend the charcuterie board for appetizer. The asparagus risotto was wonderful and the halibut tail was fresh."

Restaurants in Quebec City
The premise already has foodies salivating: "anthropomorphic universe" of local and organic cuisine. Chef Stéphane Modat, whose fame on this side of the pond is largely due to his masterful time in the kitchen of the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, surrounds himself with precious collaborators (the name of the restaurant, "the clan," is by no means a coincidence) and brings his characterful verve to boreal gastronomy. This is the kind of place where it's best to just trust the process—and savoir faire—and enjoy every miraculous bite.
Top Lunch Spots in Quebec City
Chef Stéphane Modat consistently delivers high-quality dishes, and having lunch here from Wednesday to Sunday is always a pleasant surprise. The pleasure comes from several elements: beautifully presented plates, just the right level of service, and a cozy setting that makes you want to linger — the warm decor gives the impression that this young establishment has been here for decades. But above all, it’s the dishes crafted by the chef and his team that draw people in and keep them coming back for lunch.

Formerly working as executive chef at the Fairmont Château Frontenac, the Chef Stéphane Modat offers an immersive experience in his culinary universe where game meat, fish, and our terroir are honored. Prior to opening his restaurant, he traveled through the province to learn the various cooking methods of the First nations tribes and then applied it to French cooking. Along the way, he befriended many local purveyors hence the name Le Clan.

In warmer months, take a 20-minute boat trip to the Île d’Orléans, Quebec City’s garden: Pick your own strawberries at a farm, kayak on the St. Lawrence, hike, or cycle. If you’re there in early spring (March through April), tuck into a meal of maple syrupy dishes at a sugar shack, such as Cabane à Sucre Familiale. Later in the year, lunch on summer delicacies at Le Moulin de Saint-Laurent, a former mill built in 1720.
