Reviews Summary

Restaurant Battuto is widely praised for its exceptional Italian cuisine, creative dishes, and the engaging open kitchen experience. Diners rave about the quality of ingredients and the attentive service, though some find the dining pace slow and the space cramped. While many consider it a magical food experience, a few reviews suggest it may not always live up to the significant hype.

"Excellent food, waitstaff service and atmosphere. The smaller plates are for sharing. This place came highly recommended. Did not disappoint! Reservations are a must. I love the small cozy atmosphere of this restaurant. Definitely recommend."

Kimberly Aiken

"This restaurant was a magical experience! The food was just incredible, and everything, from the staff service to the chefs was absolutely divine. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Quebec City for the first time. If you’re a foodie and enjoy a great dining experience, then this place is for you! Thank you, Battuto, for the best food we had in Quebec City!"

S Goralia

"Battuto did not live up to the hype.
They recommended we order many dishes to share, so we tried almost every dish that night. Not every dish was a hit, and found many to be lacking flavour and complexity. The cocktails were very good, however.
It took over half an hour for the server to take our drink orders, then another half hour to take our food orders. They also weren't quick to clear the plates and to get us our bill. We also found the space to be quite cramped."

Restaurants in Quebec City

Chef Guillaume Saint-Pierre's love for authentic Italian cuisine led him to open this popular 25-seat restaurant, located off the main St-Roch thoroughfares, where he can fully concentrate on that passion with gusto and skill. Italian tradition (there's arancini and vitello tonatto) blends with local flair (there's cacio e pepe with Swiss chard, and scallop crudo). The restaurant has been a huge hit, which means you should reserve weeks in advance, especially on weekends.

Melba: A beautiful new restaurant in Quebec City

In the kitchen, under the guidance or with the support of Guillaume St-Pierre (Battuto), whose multiple talents are well known when it comes to fine dining, Alexandra Roy and Charles Provencher Proulx (Auberge Saint-Antoine, La Bonne Étoile) are in charge of the sweet and savoury menu, accompanied by two other equally dynamic cooks. The work of these talented individuals attests to their good taste in gastronomy, as Melba’s plates are all, at each stage of the meal, of an exquisite delicacy and a remarkable elegance.

Dinner at Battuto, enRoute magazine's best new restaurant

The name of this blog took its full meaning last weekend when I travelled to Quebec City for less than 24 hours and specifically to eat at Battuto. Aimee, Janice and I met up with Quebec-based Marie, Catherine and Véronique to enjoy dinner at enRoute Magazine’s best new restaurant for 2017. We had actually made the reservations back in November, right after it was voted one of the best restaurants in Canada and had been patiently (or impatiently) waiting for months to finally dig in!

The portions are modest, the flavours subtle, and the presentation, a thing of supreme precision. Although the pasta—especially the gnocchi—is a must, the housemade charcuterie, tomato arancini, and lemon gnudi steal the show.
