Reviews Summary

Balzac's Coffee Roasters is celebrated for its charming, Parisian-inspired ambiance and high-quality artisanal coffees. Many patrons praise the cozy atmosphere, historic setting, and the friendly service from some staff members. However, a few reviews mention occasional issues with staff attitude, long wait times during peak hours, and inconsistent drink quality.

"Stepping into Balzac's Coffee Roasters, I was immediately drawn in by its charming and picturesque aesthetic. It's the kind of place that just begs you to come inside! I later realized it seemed to be a franchise, which actually speaks to its consistent appeal.

Now, for a quick, inside chuckle for my fellow Koreans: the name "Balzac" sounds exactly like "발작" in Korean, which instantly brings to mind the popular Korean meme, "발작버튼 눌렸냐?" (Did someone push your seizure button?). Most international readers won't get it, but any Korean spotting this review will surely get a little giggle out of it!

Memes aside, the cafe itself is genuinely beautiful and quaint, offering a cozy atmosphere. More importantly, the coffee and treats were delicious – the perfect complement to the lovely surroundings.

If you find yourself wandering through the delightful town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, I highly recommend popping into Balzac's. It's a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a quality brew in a charming setting."

"Stepping into this cafe was an absolute delight! Housed within a beautifully preserved historic building, the ambiance alone is worth the visit. I loved that they offer both cozy indoor seating, perfect for a quiet moment, and charming outdoor tables for enjoying the fresh air.

Despite being quite busy (a testament to its popularity!), the atmosphere remained vibrant and inviting. We ordered ice-coffees, and they were truly excellent – perfectly made and wonderfully refreshing. Even with the hustle and bustle, our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, which always enhances the experience.

Overall, this cafe is a true gem. If you're looking for fantastic coffee in a unique and historic setting with great service, I highly recommend making a stop here. It's clear why it's such a popular spot!"

To be honest, most of my time and money is simply spent at Balzacs. The NOTL location of the theatre-town staple is cute and comfy and there are a few perfect seats with your back to the wall so it feels safe to review even with the company members wandering around. Balzacs can add up so I try to limit myself to just one Parisian Mist a trip and switch to drip coffee if I’ll be staying awhile but with multiple interesting blends to choose from (I think the Atwood’s probably the best but my silly nerd heart can’t not order the Bard Blend), Balzacs drip coffee is nothing to complain about.

Across the street from both Balzac’s Coffee and The Irish Harb Pub is the famous Prince of Wales Hotel. Much to my chagrin, I did not get a break from the heat by leaving Florida, as it was incredibly hot in Canada the weekend we were there. We popped into the Prince of Wales lounge for a reprieve from the sun and to enjoy a cold beverage.

Inspired by Paris’ cafes, Balzac’s brings a bit of French coffee culture to Niagara-on-the-Lake. It has a distinctly Parisian feel, from the small round tables to the woven rattan patio chairs and the Art Deco floor tiles. The ambiance is lovely and it’s the kind of place that makes you want to hang around for a while.

For coffee, head to Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, in the heart of the Historic District (although I wasn’t a fan of their croissants). There is also a Starbucks on Picton St. Your best bet for a pub would be the Irish Harp, which has a very good selection of beers and serves up an extensive menu of traditional Irish fare.
