Reviews Summary

Maison Boulud offers an elegant and sophisticated French dining experience, highly praised for its impeccable service, refined cuisine, and beautiful ambiance, especially its garden terrace. While many rave about the tasting menus and signature dishes, some find the breakfast buffet lacking and the overall experience to be quite pricey.

"Service was wonderful. We went for the 5-course meal and were very satisfied. Food was tasty, there was a surprise in every dish. The flavors blended very well together. Not an everyday restaurant, however, worth it for special occasions."

Rachel C

"We stayed in the hotel so we dined here twice during our stay. Once for breakfast and once for dinner.
Breakfast experience.
The service was impeccable and very friendly. Servers actively spotted for anything you needed before you asked. The first cappuccinos we got were wonderful and velvety. The second were full of grinds and had no foam really. This was a minor issue but for the price, should never have been served. The food at breakfast was a solid 2* on the buffet. While the selection was nice, everything intended to be hot… was cold and dried out. Everything intended to be cold… was room temp. Overall. Not a great experience. For the price they could be refreshing that buffet entirely several times during their breakfast hours.
,
Dinner experience.
Overall it was a great experience. We went for the tasting menu with wine pairings and while not every dish was to our taste, they were all inspired and interesting. The service was fantastic all around.. everyone we encountered was very pleasant and went out of their way to ensure a great service. The wine pairings were excellent and absolutely on point. No complaints about dinner whatsoever… although of course insanely pricey.

I’d recommend it for dinner and would say to pass on breakfast. There are better options in the area with fresher food at a better price point for breakfast."

"Tucked inside the Ritz-Carlton and nestled in the heart of Montreal’s art district, Maison Boulud delivers an elegant, upscale dining experience that balances refined French cuisine with warm Quebec charm. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—polished yet welcoming, with that unmistakable attention to detail you expect from a Ritz property. It’s an ideal setting for a romantic date night or a special evening out.

🍲What I Tasted: We began with the foie gras, which quite literally melted in the mouth—a decadent, flavorful opener that set the tone for what was to come. Our entrées, pan-seared scallops and salmon, showcased the true brilliance of French cuisine: the sauces. Each one was a delicate, layered symphony of flavor that elevated the entire dish. While the scallops initially came out overly salted (and surprisingly the server claimed were supposed to be), they were graciously redone—this time cooked to perfection.

💡 Standout Feature: The service —attentive without being intrusive, and executed with the kind of polished grace that reflects the Ritz-Carlton standard. From menu guidance to seamlessly handling a re-fire on a dish, the staff delivered a level of care and professionalism that elevated the entire dining experience

⚠️ What Was Mid: The only drawback was the atrium seating, which in the off-season lacks the charm and ambiance of the main dining area."

best restaurants in Montreal, Canada

Maison Boulud is admirable for who owns it (Daniel Boulud), for where it resides (in the historic Ritz-Carlton), and for its lovely location adjoining a small garden and duck pond (request a table overlooking both). The restaurant is among the last of its kind, a French one (well, mostly French) in a city where French cuisine is vanishing. (This is happening everywhere in North America; it just seems more baffling in Quebec, where more than half the population is French-speaking.) I order a lunch that spins me back in time: housemade pâté of startling freshness and eminent richness, and confit
