Reviews Summary
Kitano Shokudo is celebrated for its exceptionally fresh, high-quality Japanese cuisine, particularly its fish-forward dishes like sashimi and chirashi bowls. Diners rave about the flavorful mazemen and the intimate, cozy atmosphere, complemented by friendly and attentive service. While the small space can be a drawback, the exceptional food quality consistently earns high praise.
"Amazing place! The confit duck leg mazemen is simply incredible. The Chirashi is delicious and has lots of different types of fish. The food alone warrants 5 stars, and then on top of that the service is excellent, you never feel hurried, and the music is great. What a pleasant experience."

"came for random lunch, was pleasantly surprised by how GOOD everything was!! nice vibes too and great service
what we got:
duck leg confit mazemen $32
mushroom mazemen $24
chirashi bowl $38
kani hotate ikura don $46
so yeah everything was rly good. if i had to pick i would say chirashi bowl and mushroom mazemen were my top. the crab/scallop don was good too if you rly want crab but the chirashi bowl is less $$ with more variety and the tuna!! the rice is perfectly seasoned and w the wasabi and ikura w ur sashimi ugh perfect bite. the duck mazemen was okkk for me, but the mushroom mazemen just stood out way more, i feel like it had much more flavour and depth
overall super nice experience would def recommend"

"I made sure this spot was on our list for the trip, and we’re so glad we went. We got to try their maguro futomaki, fresh, rich, perfectly seasoned, with tuna that melts in your mouth. The ramen was flavourful with a refreshing hint of yuzu. The karaage was golden and crisp on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, just perfect. Service was friendly and attentive.
We had a wonderful experience and will definitely return the next time we visit!"

Kitano Shokudo is where you should go for the freshest seafood in town, imported straight from Japan or plucked from the cold waters of Québec. Grab a spot at the counter and you might feel like you’re at a little izakaya in the back streets of Kyoto, rather than in the heart of the Plateau. The one-page menu includes sashimi, nigiri, and a terrific chirashi don, though we’re partial to the duck confit mazemen and Japanese-style mapo tofu with wild boar and a side of homemade pickles.

What is it: There’s undoubtedly a lot of excellent traditional Japanese food to be had in Montreal. That means there’s a solid bevy of sushi and ramen, but few took the techniques of Japanese cuisine to new places until the owners behind Otto Yakitori opened up this place. Chef Hiroshi Kitano takes the techniques and flavours he knows best and applies in a bistro concept that creates entirely new dishes totally unique to the city.
