Reviews Summary

Diners frequently praise Amadeus Cafe for its generous portions of delicious German and Austrian food, with the schnitzel being a consistent highlight. The cozy atmosphere, especially the unique biergarten, and attentive service also receive many compliments. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies in food preparation and occasional service hiccups, though the staff generally handles issues well.

"Food was excellent. Though we got one dish that was not what was ordered, it was replaced in a timely manner and staff was attentive. Only change would be better lighting as where we were sitting had to use my phone flashlight to read the menu with better ease. Make a reservation and enjoy a true gem of a food place in the heart of downtown Kingston. Great meal before our show at The Grand Theater, short walk from each other."

Suzanne Murchison

"Very nice German style restaurant right in the downtown of Kingston. Easy walk from major hotels by the harbour.
Service was really nice, quick, polite and cheerful.
Broad menu with a lot of traditional German/Austrian dishes. And the imported beers to go with them.
Sausage dishes were particularly good in my opinion. Plenty of schnitzel dishes too including many with sauces. My sauced schnitzel was not as good as I had hoped. I had hoped for a more 'hunter style' brown sauce, the one I had was more tomato based which I did not care for as I felt it overwhelmed the schnitzel.
The schnitzel itself was excellent, thicker than expected, perfectly breaded and fried just right.
Meals come with a homemade soup or German style salad.
Go hungry and have desert as well, the strudel at the next table looked delicious."

Paul Robert Gilroy

"Generous portions of delicious and satisfying German food.
You cannot go wrong with the schnitzel -- make sure you get the ones that come with the spätzle (a German pasta) which is lightly pan fried. Even after 20 years, I still highly recommended this place.

A guide to innovative new offerings in Kingston's dining scene

After some unfortunate events left Amadeus Restaurant and Biergarten having to close their beloved back patio early in the fall season, some determination and help from the community, combined with some exciting new offerings, have brought Kingston’s downtown German eatery back on the scene. Tucked away in a limestone alcoveare two seating areas warmed by table-top fireplaces. Here, bundled up in blankets, and warmed by a fire, patrons can enjoy European draught beers or warm glüwhein in Amadeus’ “secret” biergarten, located to the rear of the restaurant.
