What started as the Astoria Hotel in 1927 and the Astoria Bar in 1929 transformed into the uniquely named De’d Dog Bar and Grill in 1995, which describes itself as “Jasper’s place to meet and greet the wildlife.” De’d Dog Red Ale (by Wild Rose Brewery) is one of 10 domestic and craft beers you’ll find on tap, along with more in bottles or cans. The food menu has many comforting, hearty options, including vegetarian dishes, along with daily specials, such as wing night on Wednesdays.

Every day from midday to one-o-clock in the morning, the D’ed Dog is serving up cold beers, table soccer and, during Jasper in January, a poutine inspired by the flavours of an authentic Indian curry—without the burn. The D’ed Dog’s team took this event as a chance to showcase a previously secret, “off-the-menu” curry, a dish that only the staff had ever tried. The chef added it to a base of crispy Yukon gold french fries, and cheese curds, to create a rich, textured, Jasper spin on the taste of Old Delhi.

The Dead Dog Bar and Grillis famous for its music and happy environment. It is a favorite place for the youths because it is their favorite nighttime spot. They offer special food on Wednesday and Sunday because they celebrate them as their special days, and they are named Wednesday wing nights, and Sundays are known as Sunday steak nights.

As a sports bar, Dead Dog Bar & Grill offers dishes that cater to a variety of dietary styles including vegetarian, pescatarian, and non-vegetarian. The menu includes items such as spring rolls, cheese artichoke dip, crispy wings, butter chicken, and fish & chips. The butter chicken is particularly renowned for its deliciousness.

I’m having the latter, which is perfect for a healthy pick-me-up after a long day of skiing or boarding!

You haven’t been to Jasper till you’ve been to De’d Dog” is a common refrain in Jasper. Locals unanimously agree that this century-old dive bar is the bar in town. It is, in fact, the oldest bar in town.

Perhaps don’t put the De’d Dog Bar and Grill at the top of your list for fine drinking. However if you want a cheap drink and cheap soulless pub food, this is the place to go.
