What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bündok is praised for its inventive, shareable small plates and expertly crafted cocktails, creating a stylish and cozy dining experience. While the food is generally loved, some dishes have been noted as sparse or disappointing, and service can occasionally falter, though many highlight attentive and friendly staff. Despite the higher price point, many find the overall quality and experience well worth the splurge for date nights and special occasions.
"I took my girlfriend for an early Valentine’s Day dinner and Meera took care of us from the second we walked in. Prior to our reservation , I reached out about getting access to the Valentine’s Day set menu and Meera was more than happy to accommodate my request. When my girlfriend informed Meera of her food allergies, she offered an alternative dish as part of the main course and gave us both desserts from the set menu without extra charge.
The smoked olives were delicious, the smoke flavour was strong and it was beautifully neutralized by the slight bitterness and tang of the citrus. My girlfriend and I loved the fried chicken skins and joked about cancelling the rest of the meal for five more orders. It’s that addicting. The steelhead crudo was refreshing, zesty, and a delicious way to cleanse the palate.
The gnocchi was otherworldly to say the least. My girlfriend only had a few bites due to her food allergies and it broke my heart to eat the whole plate alone. Luckily for her, she had the deep fried cauliflower as a substitute and it was, I quote, “very filling”. As a steak lover, I was very excited to try the striploin with the black garlic butter. The cook was perfect (although personally I would have rendered the fat cap a little bit more, but that’s just me being nitpicky) and the sauce (I’m assuming peppercorn) tied everything together. Finally, the chocolate crepe cake and the citrus posset were both delicious, with the former having the ability to put you to sleep from how fulfilling it was, and the latter having the perfect balance of sweetness and citrus to leave your palate feeling refreshed. 10/10.
We walked out feeling full, happy, and a bit tipsy (get the equinox, I’m far from a cocktail guy so I won’t pretend like I know what i’m talking about but trust me ). Overall, the service was amazing and so was the food. If you want every date night to feel like Valentine’s Day, stop by for dinner."

"Love the concept and most of the execution of this restaurant. The food was generally good with the exception of the tartine and rillettes dishes. They do arrive already spread onto the toast, which a fine, but the versions on the night we where there where every sparse on the accompanying toppings. For example, the huge piece of bread had a good amount of the whipped chicken liver tartine, but only a couple of pickled cherries. This just made it kind of useless. When you actually had everything together in one bite it was good. Would have been better to have the items more chopped and dispersed if you are going to pre do it all in the kitchen.
That being said, the gnocchi was good as was the broccoli.
The pan roasted hen, 5 spice rub, mushrooms, tamarind & miso butter was probably one of the best things that I have had in awhile. I was more than happy that it came with mushrooms instead of the green beans it showed on the menu."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Soft boiled egg that was a little taste of the good life, fluffy gnocchi that felt like little clouds, crudo that was straight-up perfection, and a nectarine + tomato salad with goat cheese custard that tasted like sunshine and decadence. Oh, and the steak? Total main character energy — done to perfection. Bündok, you’ve officially stolen my heart ❤️"

8 Not-to-Be-Missed Restaurants in Edmonton
Located on 4th Street Promenade in the Ice District of downtown Edmonton, Bündok (named after “boondocks,” meaning “a far-off place”) features an inventive menu in an austere, but inviting space. Chef-owner Ryan Hotchkiss’ main mission is to celebrate the people and food of the community. He does so with the likes of gorgeous beef carpaccio with grilled onion, radish, and Piave Vecchio; kale with cabbage, kohlrabi, puffed wild rice, and yeast vinaigrette; and sea bream crudo with Thai basil, citrus, chili, olive oil, and apple.
Best Overall
Like all “night out” areas of town, the 104th Street strip south of Rogers Place has taken a hit the last couple years, but that hasn’t stopped Bündok from making another appearance on our best overall list. The main course menu consists of all shared dishes, including devilled eggs with fennel mayo and pickled mustard, and chicken skins were fried just short of being too flaky. If you do choose Bündok as your pre-Oilers game meal, book your table well before puck drop so you can savour every scrumptious bite.

As well, “the charred broccoli and chicken skin snacks are my go-to,” Shauna F. The modern French bistro cooking of chef Ryan Hotchkiss is delicious, day in and day out.
