It has been awhile since I have eaten at the Waterfront Warehouse, but there food is good as well.Da Maurizio is excellent!. Also La Perla on the Dartmouth side if you want Italian!. OPA has excellent greek food and great ambience!

Dinner-wise our favourites were Waterfront Warehouse and Salty’s Bar and Grill, both right by the water (it was Salty’s where we spotted a seal) and both have scrumptious lobster options and very reasonable and happily-ingested kids’ menus. At Waterfront Warehouse we discovered Canada’s reputation for friendly behaviour was very well earned – with our waiter going above and beyond usual North American attentiveness to get hold of eye drops for my son who was struggling with post-swimming-pool eyes.

What makes it so special: Mac & Cheese is such a simple dish, but at the same time complicated in detail. Each additional ingredient can change its flavor completely and the wrong choice, would simply turn the dish into cheap fast food. While traveling Nova Scotia I tried lobster mac & cheese in at least three different restaurants and probably the only one that walked perfectly that thin line between a delightful lobster dish and unhealthy (but delicious) decadent food was Waterfront Warehouse.

Waterfront Warehouse is located right on the Harbourfront and it is best known for its seafood tower so that is exactly what we ordered!. It featured a full cracked Atlantic lobster, local oysters, a shrimp cocktail, crab claws, marinated chilled mussels, solomon gundy (which is another name for pickled herring), and a selection of sauces and chutneys. All of this was served in a two-story tower over a bed of crushed ice.

It’s technically safe to swim in the Halifax Harbour, but it’s not advisable, and most of the year it’s way too cold anyways. The Waterfront lets you be close to the water and enjoy the sea air while you walk along the Boardwalk and take in all the sights. You can shop, eat, hear music and find boats to take you out onto the Harbour here, and every day is different.

Whenever my dad would visit, we’d immediately head to the Waterfront Warehouse for $1 oysters and beer (for him – I was saving room for more oysters). With a seat on the waterfront, it was easy to pass an hour or two with our fresh catch as we caught up.

There is actually a restaurant in Toronto called Hemingway’s that does call their smoked salmon Benedict “Eggs Hemingway”. What’s even more interesting is that the restaurant is owned by New Zealanders!
