In the more than 12 years since its conception, Sidewalk Citizen, helmed by Aviv Fried and his partner, Michal Lavi, has become the place for artisan sourdough. After finishing a master’s in biomedical engineering at the University of Calgary, Fried left the field to pursue his passion for baking. “I was in university for a long time, and, when I finished, I wanted to do something more tangible,” Fried says.

Downtown Calgary: Artisan bread lovers should head to Sidewalk Citizen Bakery, while indulgent sweets are waiting for you at Black Sheep Patisserie and Sucre Bakery.

However, the sandwich was just alright and quite pricey ($17 seems like overkill). The pastry was good but nothing too special as well. Also not the best service.
