In other words, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more authentic Irish pub in all of Canada.

St. Jame’s Gate is an Irish pub that actually does serve food close to British pub food. It’s probably the only place in Banff that you can find bangers and mash, steak and ale pie and other British classics. It was also the first place I ever tried pulled pork or sweet potato fries, so they serve Canadian food too!

The warm, friendly atmosphere and authenticity of the imported Irish woodwork and fantastic artifacts make St. James Gate one of the premier Irish pubs in the world. The Maple Leaf features Canadian cuisine in a lodge-style atmosphere, specializing in beef, bison, elk, and fresh fish and seafood.

St James Gate is the place to be on a Thursday night with live music from 8pm to midnight. Expect to be hitting the dance floor with your best country dancing moves. If you want to be spun around the dance floor, look for Merino (the older gentleman who will have his cowboy hat on).

It’s a fun place with good pub style food and lively entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu includes some Irish fare, battered fish and chips, steak sandwiches, roast beef dinner, burgers, soups, salads and a wide variety of beers on tap.

Ok so its not exactly fine dining but sometimes, all you want is a nice old fashioned pint of beer and a pub lunch. Where better to go about this than right in the middle of Banff in our very own Irish themed bar.

It has an incredible 24 beers on tap and 30 single malt scotches. The steaks are renowned as some of the best in town. The menu is well varied with options such as the belly warming crab and asparagus soup.
