Friends the Restaurant

Running as one of two training schools for NGO Friends International’s hospitality and chef students, Friends the Restaurant cooks up a range of creative tapas dishes, all centred around contemporary Cambodian cuisine. Dishes include palm sugar and cinnamon braised duck leg with cranberry orange relish, prawn and glass noodle salad with fresh herbs and chilli lime dressing, and sun-dried tomato hummus with crispy wontons.

Friends the Restaurant is the result of the collaboration between international non-government organization Friends International and Cambodian local organization Mith Samlanh, which has built a reputation for coming to the aid of street children and the marginalized sectors within the country. Through Friends the Restaurant, students, made of street children and marginalized youths, are provided training in preparing Asian and Western food, as well as in hospitality services. You would be hard-pressed to determine that the restaurant’s attendees are trainees, as they provide good customer care that you can expect from full-fledged restaurant staff.

Also run as a training restaurant by Mith Samlanh, Friends the Restaurant offers a tapas-style sharing menu that flies the flag for Khmer, European and Middle Eastern flavours. Cambodian dishes include prawn and glass noodle salad, grilled snapper with green mango, and pork belly with lotus root. A favourite among expats, Friends also serves the famous Phnom Penh Iced Tea (tamarind juice mixed with five different spirits), and an awesome array of European-style and Asian-inspired desserts to satisfy your sugar and butter cravings.
