Reviews Summary

Bar da Dona Onça receives widespread praise for its delicious and unique Brazilian cuisine, creative cocktails, and the excellent service provided by attentive staff like Roni. Diners particularly love the innovative dishes and the vibrant atmosphere within the iconic Copan Building. While most experiences are highly positive, some note that it's wise to arrive early or make reservations due to its popularity.

"Very nice restaurant with a good service. The hardest part in there was to choose among the wide variety of dishes. Most of them you can only taste in here. Everything was very delicious especially the Spinach Dumplings. I really would love to have its recipe to try at home."

"Wow. Truly one of the great value for money meals I've eaten, not just in these three months in South America. It's not cheap by Brazilian standards, especially not the starters but I thought every dish was of high quality and they totally surpassed my expectations. I had the pot roast croquettes to start. Phenomenal, especially with a couple of dabs of the little bottle of hot sauce you'll find on the table. For my main, I had the steak au poivre that is accompanied by thin noodles. This description which only a Brit will understand and will be underwhelmed by and not do the meal justice is what I'm gonna stick with regardless. I can't believe I'm saying this. Imagine someone made high end steak flavoured Pot Noodle, with actual steak cooked medium rare and a delicious pepper sauce rather than the boiled water and sachet of crap. That's what this tasted like. It was so good, I was full but I wanted to eat more of it. If I ever return to Sao Paulo, this would be my first stop!"

"We had a great experience at Bar da Dona Onça. The place has a warm, welcoming vibe and the food was absolutely delicious. What made it even better was the service. Our waitress took the time to explain the entire menu to us, which really helped us choose the perfect dishes. You can tell they care about both the food and the customer experience. Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic flavors and great hospitality in São Paulo!"

The Best Traditional Brazilian Restaurants In São Paulo

Another of the best restaurants in the center of São Paulo is the local’s favorite Bar da Dona Onça, located on the ground floor of the iconic Copan Building. Led by Janaina Rueda (who is married to Jefferson Rueda, of the aforementioned Casa do Porco), the restaurant serves up classic home-style São Paulo food with wonderful ingredients and a modern twist. Dona Onça doubles up as a bar, as the name suggests, with a large selection of delicious finger food, such as the excellent Croc Milanesa, which is a breaded beef cutlet ( alla milanese), cut into bite-sized cubes and served with a spicy tomato sauce. However, it is with sit-down meals that Dona Onça really excels.

São Paulo Has Become Brazil's Most Stylish City — and There's Never Been a Better Time to Visit

As evening approached, I stopped for a drink and a snack at Bar da Dona Onça, a restaurant on the ground floor of the iconic Copan building, Brazil’s largest apartment complex. (The tilde-shaped tower is so vast it commands its own zip code.) Raised in central São Paulo, chef Janaína Rueda opened Dona Onça as an homage to the classic downtown nightspots where, when she was a child, her mother had worked as a publicist. In the wood-paneled interior, diners order caipirinhas with pitch-perfect coxinha (chicken croquettes) and spinach-and-cheese fritters called bolinhos de espinafre e queijo.
