Reviews Summary

Ré Restaurante Dona Suzana is celebrated for its authentic Bahian cuisine, particularly the generous portions of Moqueca de camarão, and stunning sea views. While many praise the food and ambiance, some diners have noted issues with service, including aloofness and lack of attentiveness, and found the restaurant to be overhyped and overpriced. Despite mixed reviews on service, the unique location and flavorful dishes remain a draw for visitors seeking a taste of local Salvador.

"Best Moqueca de camarão I’ve had so far! Nice view, friendly staff and I also had a good Caipirinha, for which the waiting time was quite long tho because I think they are getting the cocktails from another place.
Still a must-visit in Salvador!

PS: the portions are definitely sufficient for 2 persons"

Robert

"Authentic Salvadorian food accompanied by the best sea views and live music next door!

Food portions are extremely generous and are all accompanied by rice, beans and tapioca flour. Seafood stew dish is well cooked, though a bit mild for my personal taste. Drinks options are limited but not a deal breaker.
The only downside is that the Mixed seafood stew is only available for 2 pax."

"I really didn’t want to write this review. Let me first say that we had an opportunity to meet thee Dona Suzana and she was so lovely and sweet. But that’s where the goodness ends. This place is not worth the hassle it takes to get to. Honestly, the worst mocqueca I’ve had in Brasil. My suspicion is that Suzana is no longer cooking the food, and if she were, it’d be much better. I have nothing to base this assumption off of, so take it with a grain of salt. But what really blew me was the service. When I tell you our server never spoke to us and had the worst attitude I’ve ever experienced in a dining establishment. I don’t go overseas expecting American service. I don’t even particularly care if you’re “nice.” But it’s just plain rude to not speak and act like we’re bothering you. For that kind of rudeness I expect the food to be ten stars, and it wasn’t. And the view is also overhyped. This was by far my biggest disappointment in Salvador. I would not return."

Salvador’s Afro-Brazilian Culinary Culture Is Thriving — Here's Where to Go

Dona Suzana, an icon of Bahian food, was among the first to reclaim these roots at her globally recognized Ré Restaurante Dona Suzana, whose name is a cheeky nod to her signature stutter. At the seaside restaurant, just steps from her home, the chef prepares daily-caught fish with views of the sparkling bay. When Freitas and I arrived, we were drenched from the Brazilian heat.

The water is still warm (well, warm ish), the holidaymakers have gone home, and the autumn swells are starting to show. Winter will often give you good surfing conditions, but the water temp is only on the way down now, and won't really recover to a comfortable level until about May next year.
