Reviews Summary

Oro is celebrated for its inventive modern Brazilian haute cuisine, with many guests praising the artfully plated tasting menus and exceptional wine pairings. While the food and ambiance are frequently lauded as extraordinary, some diners have noted inconsistencies in service and found certain dishes did not meet the high expectations set by its two Michelin stars.

"Best lunch I’ve had in a long time! Service was excellent, food was amazing and the wine pairing matched perfectly!!

Update: took my partner for dinner and unfortunately it didn’t live up to the previous visit. Starters and service and wine were still great but the fish was tough and the beef was so dry I couldn’t eat it. And what was disappointing was I told the waiter and there was no acknowledgement."

Karen Powell

"The food was good, but it didn’t live up to a two-star standard. In fact, I’ve been to one-star restaurants that provided equal or better food, as well as comparable service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, our experience was disrupted by a table of three young women who were extremely loud. Their noise was audible even in the upstairs restroom, yet they were never asked to keep it down. This didn’t feel like a proper dining environment for appreciating the flavors on offer.

That said, I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of asking for our favorite starter. I chose the burger and thoroughly enjoyed having it again."

Deniz Piri

"Beautiful setting, great food — but a baffling and uncomfortable experience - we will never return again.

We had high hopes for this restaurant. The ambience was lovely and the food itself was delicious, beautifully presented and full of flavor. Unfortunately, everything else around the experience left a sour taste in our mouths — and for a bill of over $500, that’s just not acceptable.

I opted for the cheaper wine pairing, but I didn’t feel it matched my courses well, so I passed it to my spouse. What followed was genuinely uncomfortable: staff openly talked about it — in front of us — as if we had done something wrong. It wasn’t as if we were getting extra wine; if anything, my spouse still had fewer pours than the premium pairing. It was awkward and unprofessional. If they had an issue, it would’ve been far better to address it discreetly with us, rather than make us feel embarrassed. That moment completely disrupted what was meant to be a special night.

A few other points didn’t help:
• The main courses were the same size as the snacks, which made the term “main” a bit misleading.
• We noticed the table next to us received chocolates and a gift, while we received nothing. We didn’t expect anything extra, but it certainly made us feel less welcome, as though there was some uneven treatment of guests.

Overall, while the culinary execution was solid and the setting lovely, the service experience made us deeply uncomfortable — so much so that we would not return. In a city like Rio, where we’ve had amazing meals for less than half the price, I would honestly recommend saving your money and choosing somewhere else that values hospitality just as much as flavor."

What to Eat in Rio de Janeiro

Oro enjoys the dual honor of receiving a Michelin star in a new phase of its history as well as during a new phase in the career of its chef, the famed Felipe Bronze. In this second version of Oro—the first iteration was a source of much delight—Bronze has added a twist to his notions of avant-garde cooking, using foreign textures and flavors in conjunction with local traditions. There are two tasting menus: Creativity, which features main courses, and Affectivity, which is just snacks and sweets, served without utensils.
