Reviews Summary

Bar do Mineiro is celebrated for its authentic Brazilian cuisine, particularly its highly-rated feijoada and lively Santa Teresa atmosphere. Diners praise the generous portions, fast service, and the unique, retro ambiance, often calling it a must-visit in Rio. However, some reviews mention long waits and small portions for certain dishes, alongside less attentive service during busy periods.

"Bar do Mineiro is the perfect stop in Santa Teresa! Everything we order was amazing! We had the Feijoada (delicious!), the porção mista de pastéis, Queijo coalho a milanesa, Frango a passarinha, Feijoada Caldo and Vaca atolada Caldo. Would eat everything again now ;) The service was great, food came out fast and I love the Santa Teresa vibes. We walked from here to Parque das ruínas and to escadaria Selaron. I would recommend ubering as it can be hard finding parking in the area."

Carolina Kalmbach

"Very nice, chilled restaurant if you want something traditional and tasty for lunch. Enjoyed the pork chops with rice and fajolada, which was great. They only had one type of croquettes with beans inside a very little meat, which tasted okay but were not amazing. Would still recommend paying a visit here!"

Nico A

"Do you know when can you eat bones? When it has been cooked in the stew for so long that its calcium breaks down and flavour comes out. This is how I know I have had one of the best stews in my life, not just the best Feijoada. The stew does not cheat - plenty of meat, sausage and beans cooked just to the right texture. The sides were perfect complements to the stew, especially the orange slices with the sauce - yes I ate it that way and saucéed the plate with it. The staff is friendly, attentive and under the classical music backdrop I was losing my mind as I had my meal. Nothing touches the soul of a sick traveller better than such a stew on a rainy day."

Top 10 neighbourhood bars in Rio | Rio de Janeiro holidays

Santa Teresa is Rio’s villagey, boho neighbourhood, home to a flourishing artists’ community, and it’s well worth taking the rattly old tram up the hill from the centre to see the many attractive colonial buildings. The place to meet is Bar do Mineiro, a lively, friendly joint with old black and white photos of Rio on one wall and bright colourful paintings above the bar. It serves up hearty meaty dishes from the neighbouring state of Minas Gerais, also the home of Brazil’s finest cachaça (sugar cane spirit).

Best Rio de Janeiro Lunch Restaurants: Top 10Best Restaurant Reviews

It doesn't look like much, but this unpretentious little spot in leafy Santa Teresa offers vast portions of delicious Northeastern Brazilian food at more than reasonable prices. The walls are hung with paintings by Chilean artist Selaron - whose masterwork, the Lapa Steps, lies just a few minutes' walk from the restaurant - and the accommodating staff always offer the warmest of welcomes and the speediest of service. T Not the best spot for dieters, the restaurant (it's a bar in name only) serves hearty dishes such as sundried beef with cassava, rice and beans, while vegetarians can opt to switch the meat for 'queijo coalho' - thick slabs of grilled white cheese.
