While many praise the authentic flavors, generous portions, and friendly service, a few reviewers have noted issues with food quality and slow service. "Absolutely delicious traditional cuisine with generous portions. The menu is clear, and the vegetarian icons are super helpful—truly appreciated. Warm, family-friendly atmosphere in the heart of the city. Highly recommended, heartfelt thanks for a wonderful evening!"

"Heard this was a good restaurant that serves traditional Bosnian cuisine. This was recommended by our tour guide and google. We ended up ordering Cherry Rakia for a drink. For food we ordered Bey’s Soup which is chicken soup and we also ordered Bosanski Lomac which is Bosnian Pot with veal, beef and potatoes. The food was very hearty and came with some bread which was great to soak up all the broth and juices."
Josh Baltazar
"We ate here three times during our stay in Sarajevo and every meal was great. The young lady that served us outside was brilliant and had everything running like clockwork. If you are in Sarajevo this is a must visit, the cheese Klepe are delicious!"

The Best Traditional Bosnian Restaurants In Sarajevo

Guide to Sarajevo, Bosnia
The best place to try these is Nanina Kuhinja in Baščaršija. My favorite barbecue staple – and the reason for all the smoke that wafts out of Baščaršija restaurants – is ćevapi (Bosnian kebab). Taste them at Željo, Sarajevo’s most famous ćevabdžinica (kebab shop).

Eating and Drinking in Sarajevo
We also asked for a good recommendation for a place that served traditional Bosnian food for lunch and were given the brochure for Nanina Kuhinja. (I know I keep using the word “traditional” but we didn’t come all this way to eat hamburgers.) This place took us forever to find, mostly because the map on the brochure was completely wrong. Now, it was winter so instead of those traditional Bosnian stools around the low tables outside, it was regular-height tables and chairs inside.
Dine and Drink Your Way Out As Locals Do
NANINA KUHINJA. This restaurant is famous for the oriental interior, classic Bosnian cuisine, huge portions, and a cozy atmosphere. I thought it was too touristy and pricey compared to other restaurants in the same area. But the setting is pretty, the food is good and there is a nonsmoking policy (which is very rare in the Balkans.)
Best Restaurants for Vegetarians and Vegans in Sarajevo, Bosnia
Located in the old town, Nanina Kuhinja is a Bosnian restaurant with an omnivorous menu, but has vegan and vegetarian options clearly labeled. This is a great place for veggie tourists to try Bosnian food. If you’re vegetarian, I highly recommend the cheese and roasted pepper dish; it was loaded with garlic and herbs and so tasty!
Traditional Restaurants in Sarajevo
It's in the heart of Bascarsija and has outdoor seating so you can watch life go by as you dig in. The inside is also very cosy with old stone walls and big windows looking out onto the street. The restaurant serves a range of very reasonably priced Bosnian dishes (I recommend all of the stuffed vegetables).
Where to Eat Like a Local |
Nanina Kuhinja, which translates to “Nana’s Kitchen,” lives up to its name by serving hearty, comforting Bosnian dishes in a cosy, welcoming setting. If you’re looking for a taste of home cooking, this is the place to be. 📍 Address: Bravadžiluk 2, Sarajevo
6 Strong Reasons to Visit Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina
As for an actual restaurant recommendation, I quite liked Nanina Kuhinja right in the centre. Given its location, you’d think it would be touristy and overpriced, but felt fairly reserved in that regard.
