Ignore the fact that this intimate establishment got its name from a Stephen King television series and you’ve wound up in a setting that almost begs one to pop the question. With all dark wood paneling, candlelight everywhere and dozens of red roses dangling from the ceiling, owner Kris might as well be Cupid in disguise. Cleverly combining his snug space with a nice selection of Trappist beers, he’s had multiple newly engaged couples walk out with big grins on their faces.

Go for an aperitif at Café Rose Red before enjoying some of the best French-Belgian cooking – including sashimi of seabass, North Sea brown shrimps, and pork cheeks – in Bruges at Assiette Blanche. Food is served in a polished, lounge-like dining room with comfortable banquettes and modern upholstered chairs, surrounded by wood panelling and poster-size photo portraits of cinema stars. You could then round off the day with a beer in a 13th-century cellar at Le Trappiste.

This busy café-bar might be attached to a hotel, but it remains a destination in itself—a wood-and-stone interior, copious (albeit fake) red roses for decor, knowledgeable staff, and a beer menu topping 150 that includes some rare Trappist finds, are all potent lures.

The website touts it as a place to enjoy Trappist beers, but the beer pilgrim will be excited to find the selection of craft beers on tap from De Struise Brouwers who has become one of the most beloved craft breweries in the world, known for their various barrel-aged quadrupel beers. The interior is cozy with several roses hanging from the ceiling and it is located on the hidden Cordoeanierstraat which is close to the Choco-Story museum.

Right in the heart of the city yet somehow shielded from the main flock of tourists is this charming Belgian pub with a huge beer offering. Cafe Rose Red is described as one of the most romantic spots in Bruges, which must be thanks to the many roses hanging from the ceiling. It feels classy without ever straying into pretentious.

From hearing Zoë talk about Café Rose Red I was expecting to like it a lot, and I wasn’t disappointed. A rather attractive room, all red walls and roses hanging from the ceiling, it had a decent if not incredible beer list and an interesting range of options on tap. I’d heard good things about the food and so we ordered a few bits and pieces to graze on.

It is the place to taste different Belgian beers which you can now also enjoy along some really nice novelty sharing dishes (vegetarian and non-vegetarian selection).

Their speciality is Trappist beer; hence they offer all the trappist beers that are recommended all over the world.

MAP. With a great selection of Belgian brews, plus really good tapas and sharing plates, Café Rose Red is charming and convivial. It was our go-to bar in Bruges on our first trip – as we stayed in the hotel upstairs (which we highly recommend!).

You can visit this bar if you appear to be near Choco-Story – The Chocolate Museum. Cooks at Cafe Rose Red do their best to provide guests with mouthwatering tapas, salami and terrine. Most guests recommend trying nicely cooked parfait.

And for good addresses, stop at Red Rose Cafe, a very nice bar with a terrace where dogs are welcome, or treat yourself to the De Wijngaert restaurant.
