Another great brunch spot on the Jan van Eyckplein is Blackbird. Just a tad fancier in both decor and food, this one is unmissable. According to many, Blackbird serves the best croissants in Bruges, the tapas breakfast/brunch is extraordinary, their pain perdu is heavenly and the pannacotta divine.

We headed to this gorgeous cafe for breakfast before a solid day of sightseeing: and the food we ate there was so filling and wholesome, we knew for sure we'd made the right choice!. Blackbird is the only fully vegan place that we visited in Bruges, so it can get very busy: we'd definitely recommend booking a table if you've got your heart set on visiting!. Mike was feeling a smaller breakfast, and went for the ham and cheese croissant, with a power smoothie.

Blackbird is a pretty restaurant, it’s almost romantic and definitely social media design friendly. I visited for breakfast but didn’t stay as I didn’t like the set breakfast menu – I just wanted an ala carte breakfast. The concierge said it was a wonderful restaurant, hopefully I can try next time for lunch where there’s more flexibility in food choice.

Black Bird (100% VG) a vegan place for coffee, tea, breakfast and lunch, on the Jan van Eyck square, which opened in May 2015. They became fully vegan as of 2021. The decoration is plush and cosy, the black bird theme on cups and menu, the lamps under large bird cages, lots of candles and pillows, a place to sink away and enjoy a tasty pauze.

They serve a fabulous selection of tea as well – mine came served in a pink clock tea pot with a blackbird tea cup.
