What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Glass Garden is highly praised for its exceptional service, creative cuisine, and breathtaking views over Salzburg. Diners consistently highlight the attentive staff and the unique dining experience, making it a memorable occasion. While some find the price point high, the overall consensus is that the quality of food, service, and ambiance makes it well worth the expense.
"A treat to celebrate Christmas. Although the price seems a little steep upfront, the food was delicious, with many extra small courses and a celebration of the produce. The service was very helpful and friendly, without the pretentiousness sometimes felt at other fine dining venues. Great support with wine selections. And topped off with a special view over Salzburg and surrounds."

"Let me start by saying—this restaurant sits high up in the hills. Getting there is a bit of a trek, and yes, I hiked up in heels… so you know I mean it when I say it’s worth the effort. You get an amazing panoramic view of Salzburg and the surrounding mountains.
We went with the six-course menu for $195, along with the wine pairing—five glasses for $99. The pours are on the smaller side, but still enjoyable.
Six courses is definitely a lot of food! We also ordered the duck liver, which I highly recommend. It’s prepared three ways: pâté, grilled, and a rich, creamy spread. All were unique and flavorful, but the grilled version was my favorite—tender, buttery, and absolutely delicious. Definitely a dish you can share.
Overall, the restaurant is absolutely worth a visit for the experience and the stunning views. It’s a truly beautiful spot."

"Glass Garden is a must visit. From start to finish the entire experience is top notch. I have a gluten allergy and they were able to accommodate everything, which I was so thankful for. We did the full tasting menu and beverage pairing and would absolutely recommend to anyone! The service staff was wonderful and paid such great attention to every detail. We had the honor of meeting their Executive Chef - he was remarkable. Goes to show the kind of environment he has created for his team."

The 12 best restaurants in Salzburg
Dramatically perched atop Mönchsberg, The Glass Garden is a welcome culinary newcomer to palace hotel Schloss Mönchstein. By contrast to the hotel’s classic glamour, the avant-garde restaurant keeps things slick, with pale parquet, champagne-hued club chairs, and curving glass walls that open up phenomenal views over the city’s rooftops and spires. American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly created the striking tendril-like centrepiece, which you can admire over inspired, ingredient-centred dishes like pike perch with marinated pike perch with verjus and yoghurt, glazed veal sweetbread with young peas, and sea buckthorn cheesecake with pistachio – expertly paired with Austrian wines.
An Expert's Guide To Salzburg's Best Restaurants
The Glass Garden, in a five-star hotel on Mönchsberg, more than lives up to its name; it is housed inside a massive glass dome with a large hand-blown sculpture at its centre. “Both the architecture and the city views are unusual, and the food is delicious and very innovative,” says Ilse, who recommends dropping in the hotel’s stylish bar for an after-dinner drink. While the restaurant prides itself on having “the best steaks in town”, award-winning chef Markus Mayr and his team also offer a vegan menu for guests on a plant-based diet.
