Fischerhäusl and Stiftskeller are reliable old favourites, but for a more modern take on Austrian cuisine, try Die Wilderin, which specialises in hyper-seasonal, locally sourced and foraged ingredients. For dessert, indulge with cake and a coffee at one of the city’s historic cafes, like Café Sacher or Café Munding, then round things off with an Austrian beer or two: try Tribaun on Museumstrasse for craft beers or sit outdoors in the market square, next to the river Inn.

Tucked away next to the Innsbruck Cathedral, Fischerhausl is a lovely, authentic Tyrolean restaurant and bar in a quiet nook of the Old Town. In a house built in 1753, the restaurant oozes character and charm with ancient timber floors, dark timber panelled walls with bench seats and red velvet cushions. The food served is hearty and tasty with many favourites including soups, ribs, goulash, schnitzel, spätzle and fish dishes.

A visit to Innsbruck isn’t complete without a stop at Fischerhausl (Herrengasse 8), a circa 1753 bar that whips up delicious bites. Here you’ll encounter one of the loveliest patios in town and a varied menu that includes salads, meat dishes, vegetarian options and gluten-free recipes. Frittatensuppe – a Tyrolean soup made from beef, veggies and noodles – is a specialty and worth tasting.

Set amidst the famous attractions of Tyrolean State Theatre, Hofburg Museum, and Hofgarten, Fischerhäusl is a charming family-run restaurant in the old town of Innsbruck. Dine al fresco in the lovely garden during the summer or get cosy upstairs during winter. The menu here offers delightful European & Mediterranean cuisine with Traditional Austrian influence.

It’s incredibly rich, smooth, creamy, and pretty affordable. There are loads of other authentic Austrian dishes on the menu, too. It’s best to visit Fischerhausl during spring or summer when you can sit outside in the little garden out back and enjoy an alfresco meal.

Famous for it’s mulled wine stall in winter, Fischerhausl is a restaurant that serves Tyrolean delicacies. I ordered the humble cheese dumpling soup (Kaspressknödel Suppe) and the Wiener Schnitzel. The dumplings came submerged in a light flavorful broth.

One of my favourites - especially if is warm enough to sit outside is Fischerhausl on Herrengasse (behind St Jakob's Cathedral). Fish restaurant and a nice place to nestle into (or outside of) and pass away the hours.

A beer garden in the best sense of the word, guaranteeing a pleasant time in the heart of Innsbruck. The Fischerhäusl enjoys a prime location between the theatre, congress centre and imperial palace.
