What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
This historic cafe is lauded for its traditional charm and exquisite selection of cakes and pastries, offering a delightful old-world experience. While many praise the rich hot chocolate and unique treats like macarons and peppermint-ginger ice tea, some reviewers found the desserts to be more beautiful than delicious. Service can be hit or miss, with some experiencing efficiency and others noting a lack of friendliness or disorganization. The cash-only policy is a recurring point of contention.
"I have a high standard for hot chocolate. When I saw that here, they made hot chocolate of Valrhona brand, I got super excited. And it almost lived up to my expectations. I would reduce the amount of milk to get the proper thickness, but the taste is good. Desserts, we tried, were tasty as well: pistachio profiterole (not sure how exactly it was called) was exceptionally good."

"Very busy little coffee shop but with plenty of seating available. The menu is mostly coffee and 3 or so breakfast or lunch items and some cakes available from the front area. The service was not very friendly or welcoming but was fast and efficient. We had Apfelstrudel wich was sadly not my taste. They have clean toilets on the first floor."

"I love this pastry shop. It's a small place, but really nice. I ate a cake that was like a brownie with mango mousse on top and it was very tasty. I think it's the best place in Innsbruck if you want to try some sweet treats and enjoy your day there."

Although Vienna is very much the ‘capital’ of coffeehouse culture, famed for its traditional and beloved establishments, Innsbruck has some beautifully well-preserved joints to discover. Mundling, located in the heart of the Old Town, is a fine example—a perfectly quaint setting in which to enjoy some classic Austrian cuisine and one that the locals probably wish they could keep hush hush. The apple strudel is a must-try.

On a quiet corner in the Old Town, Café Munding Kiebachgasse 16 (tel 0512/584118; www.munding.at) is in house built in 1720 that has baroque frescoes, carved bay windows and Tyrolean detailing. The interior of the cafe has been modernised (sadly), but its warren of rooms are still pleasant. The first thing you'll see is a pastry and chocolate shop.
