Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax for its historical significance and delicious, traditional Austrian pastries. The stunning, centuries-old wooden facade is a major draw. While many praise the taste and friendly service, some found certain pastries to be dry and expected a lighter, more French-style puff pastry.

"One of a kind. Perfect taste, friendly service, reasonable prices…"

NK A

"Being from Copenhagen we’re blessed with some of the best bakeries in the world, and I will always compare bread and pastry quality with the level we have at home and unfortunately Edegger-Tax left me disappointed.

I bought a large loaf of bread, a vanilla croissant, a pastry with cream and fruits, a nusskipferl and two small semmels. The Semmel and loaf was great. Nice crumb and super good flavor in both. The pastries however were quite disappointing. I don’t know if that’s how they’re supposed to be traditionally here I Austria - dry and doughy - but I much prefer the light and airy version of French style puff pastries.

For the price and hype I think there are much better options in the city."

KC

"The baked goods here are absolutely delicious! I had a cinnamon roll which was good, but the chocolate donut with hazelnut filling was out of this world. Their dough is nice and thick, so everything is wonderfully filling."

Insider's Guide to Graz | Things to Do in Graz, Austria

I really enjoyed my visits to this farmers’ market, which is open from 6 am until 1 pm on weekdays and Saturdays. While it’s mainly fresh produce, you’ll find some of the stalls selling items to take away, such as local wines and pumpkin oil, and it’s nice to be able to buy directly from the producers and cut out the middleman. In operation since 1569 (although only in its current location since the 19th century), this is Graz’s oldest bakery.
