Reviews Summary

Bauernmarkt Kaiser-Josef-Platz is praised for its lively atmosphere and wide selection of fresh, local produce and regional specialties. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to find bio meats, artisanal breads, and unique items. However, some find the market to be on the pricier side, especially during winter months.

"Lively and offering a lot of choices, bio meats, great breads, permaculture stands, in addition to great selection of veggies. Food truck / options to eat on location. July 2019 there is reconstruction so the market moved to the other side of the Opera. We were told it's open daily with the biggest market happening on Saturday."

Jay Z.

"Very nice open market for fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, sausages, jams, honeys, bread, cakes, juices, and other regional specialities. Prices are not excessive but certainly not cheap. There's a good selection though. If you want to see all stalls open, you should come earlier than the indicated closing time, as not all stalls stay open until the end.

The market is easy to be accessed, as there's a tramway stop just there (for the Graz opera)."

Oliver Finker

"Great choice of wares but by far the most expensive farmers market in Graz which is why I would never recommend it"

Cecilia Bergthaler

For more casual fare, be sure to visit the daily Kaiser-Josef-Platz Market (located near the opera), where Styrian farmers sell their wares, from fresh apples to asparagus to wine. And no one should miss a visit to Frankowitsch deli, an institution that specializes in open-face sandwiches topped with spicy salami, shrimp salad, pickled trout, and more. The Top 10 Things To See And Do In Lend Graz

Located in Lendplatz, the Bauernmarkt is one of over a dozen farmers markets that spring up regularly within the Graz city limits. Although some type of open-air market has been held in the Lendplatz since at least the 18th century, a true farmers’ market wasn’t established here until 1945. Open daily from 6am to 1pm, visitors lucky enough to have access to a kitchen can stock up on fresh local produce, meat, cheese, bread and much more.

Called The ‘Capital Of Delight,’ Graz, Austria Is Rich In Culture, Food And Wine: Part One

Called the “Capital of Delight,” it is one of Europe’s most baroque cities, and it has its own sumptuous cuisine and dining scene that includes daily farmer’s markets—the oldest is Kaiser-Josef-Platz Markt near the opera—where more than 350 local farmers sell everything from indigenous fruits and vegetables and wines to prepared wursts, breads and pastries and cheeses. Here you’ll find Murodner potatoes, Kernöl pumpkin seed oil (widely used in the cooking here) and local beers like Reininghaus Edel Pils and Puntigamer Lager. In the fall the city celebrates the Graz Truffle Festival, with seven varieties offered.

Sunflowers, pumpkin seeds, freshly baked bread, tasty ham and cheese, juicy apples and brilliant red tomatoes – images from a farmers’ market in Graz. A healthy ruddy tint on the cheerful stall holding ladies’ cheeks too, as they present their fresh, home-grown wares on Kaiser-Josef-Platz square. There is a market every day (Monday - Saturday), but on Saturdays practically all of Graz drops by to fill their baskets, with the option to round off with refreshments with friends at one of the popular snack bars there.

We wander through the oldest and largest market in Graz, the Kaiser-Josef market on Kaiser-Josef-Platz Square opposite the superb Graz Opera House. Farmers arise at a sparrow's you-know-what to pluck their home-grown goodness, before setting up at the market. We buy local Isabella grapes, strawberries and ask about a peculiar lettuce with faint red edges.
