What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
St Bernards Hotel is lauded for its absolutely stunning panoramic views and the charming presence of its resident St. Bernards. Diners consistently praise the cozy atmosphere, particularly the fireplaces in winter, and many find the food to be good quality. However, a few reviews mention issues with service, including incorrect orders and perceived disrespect from staff, with one reviewer noting a surcharge discrepancy.
"A friend recommended this place. The old building/tavern is stunning then you pass out to the back deck and have amazing views from the mountains down to the sea. We dined outside due to good weather and enjoyed nice meals. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Inside diners enjoyed the wood fire and views through the glass windows."

"This place is iconic but I have not eaten at the restaurant for at least 10 years and everything is just the way I remember which is incredible. Great food, beautiful views, cosy fireplaces, gorgeous dogs and that rustic feel. Remember to book it is very busy though. Now I know that it is difficult to be perfect but it did loose a star for honesty. Although printed on the menu is 15% surcharge on Sundays and public holidays which is in there rights to do to cover costs in wages but this was a Saturday and not just a coincidence as I waited to confirm with the next guests order and that also displayed surcharge on the screen."

"We called for lunch and found a table outside looking at the beautiful view across to the Gold Coast.
I ordered the Lamb Rump which was cooked perfectly. My wife had the vegetarian Gnocchi which was in a ratatouille sauce, she said it was delicious.
The place was pretty busy but the staff were friendly and very helpful. Well worth the trip up the mountain."

Robert Muir built St Bernards House in 1881 on the site of the present Council Quarry on Kaiser Road, as an accommodation house for its managers and staff. He bought almost 2000 acres of heavy scrubland at the top of the southern end of the mountain intending to grow sugar cane when the land was cleared. Mr. Muir was drowned in the flooded Logan River at Yatala in 1887.
Mount Tamborine, Gold Coast hinterland: Best things to see and do on a day trip
At the St Bernards Hotel, Molly and Syrah are a living attraction you didn’t expect to see. These two dogs — saint bernards no less —look far from alive this particular afternoon splayed out in the porch as we enter. We learn they’ve surpassed their quota of strokes and pats for the day, so, taking credence in the old proverb about sleeping dogs we leave them to it.
