Reviews Summary

Yoshii's Omakase is widely celebrated for its exceptional food craftsmanship and pristine seafood, with many hailing it as a top omakase experience in Sydney, even rivaling Michelin-starred establishments in Japan. Diners praise the chef's skill, the quality of ingredients, and the warm hospitality. However, some find the experience pricey for the perceived value, and minor inconsistencies in service or ambiance have been noted.

"Yoshii Omakase

Experience the pinnacle of food craftsmanship.

Every dish is a masterpiece, showcasing not only the finest ingredients but also an unwavering commitment to quality in service.

After several visits, I am continually blown away by the expertise of the two master chefs, who transform each meal into a delightful culinary journey.

Their exceptional creations consistently leave a lasting impression, making every dining experience truly remarkable.."

"Yoshii’s attention to detail and the care he put into each course truly made the evening unforgettable.

However the server ruined the whole fine dining experience when we saw her way in clearing the table - Putting the chopsticks paper band into the bowl in front of me & my mom while clearing may seem like an innocent time-saver, but it’s frowned upon in fine dining. Instead, remove the trash individually and put it on a tray out of direct sight."

"Made a reservation for the omakase which is located in a private room at the entrance to Nobu. The course included about ten pieces of sushi, a beautifully arranged plate of sashimi representing the current seasonality, and several other dishes. All the seafood used in the omakase were very fresh and was especially noticeable when tasting the sashimi. The Kagoshima wagyu was perfectly cooked, very tender and marbled with no gristle at all. Each piece of nigiri sushi was delicious and satisfying; some of the highlights includes the squid which was texturally unique to the bite due to how it was cut, the fatty kamatoro tuna which comes in only a small quantity from the collar, the fresh and smooth Hokkaido sea urchin, the soft and sweet pearl meat which is said to be superior to scallop, and the fluffy sea eel drizzled with chef Yoshii's 32 years old concentrated sweet soy sauce. The egg omelette was also very unique and tasty; the top and bottom layer has a sponge cake texture and the centre was like a creamy scramble egg which is barely holding it's shape. Overall it was a great dining experience, food wise as well as the friendly and attentive service from the staff as well as the chef's interactions with every customer."

The Best Japanese Restaurants In Sydney

For over 30 years, Sydney’s sushi aficionados defer to Yoshii as an unmatched icon in Sydney’s Japanese dining scene. The restaurant’s original concept, hatched by Nagasaki-born master chef Yoshii Ryuichi, was to offer contemporary Japanese cuisine that would entice the whole diverse population of multicultural Sydney. To this end, Yoshii’s dinner menu is served in Japanese ‘Kaiseki’ style (a kaiseki being a small stone that is heated up to warm the stomach in cold Japanese winters), which involves serving several dishes in small portions like tapas.

Sydney has embraced omakase with a wave of openings in recent years, but for a two-hat experience in plush surrounds head to Crown Sydney for Yoshii’s Omakase. With a minimum spend of $350 per person, this 10-seater isn’t cheap, but its price is entirely justified by sushi master Ryuichi Yoshii’s pristine seafood. His sushi procession (think kingfish belly, ume-licked bonito and squid scored to bloom like a flower) is as good as it gets.
