Reviews Summary
Diners frequently praise The Fenwick for its breathtaking harbour views and the charming ambiance of its historic sandstone building. The food is often described as delicious and well-portioned, with particular appreciation for seafood and pasta dishes, complemented by excellent service. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies in flavor that don't always meet expectations, and one review highlighted a very disappointing experience with service potentially due to discriminatory behavior.
"The food here was genuinely impressive ~ every dish was thoughtfully prepared and tasted great. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the whole dining experience feel relaxed and enjoyable.
What I loved most was the outdoor seating with a direct view of the Harbour Bridge and the view was stunning, perfect for a slow meal and good conversation. And yes, dogs are welcome outside! Being able to bring my pup along made it even better.
After lunch, we took a nice walk in the seaside park just next to the restaurant. Everything about the visit was lovely – I’d definitely come back."

"The Fenwick is a great spot for breakfast, with a lovely location that sets the tone for a relaxing start to the day. The menu is certainly enticing, full of creative and tempting options. However, some dishes felt slightly overpriced for breakfast fare.
That said, the portion sizes are more than generous and while the descriptions sounded exciting, some of the flavours didn’t quite live up to the promise - half of our meals weren’t finished.
Still, coffee is good and the service was exceptional- it's a pleasant venue - right next to the ferry- and worth a visit - am returning with a different group for dinner."

"Delicious food! Beautiful view! Wonderful time!
Had dinner tonight with three friends.
The set menu was the most convenient 😁
Also ordered a French white wine — very nice and easy to drink.
Will definitely visit again and look forward to the new menu!"

Nine Stunning Restaurants and Bars That Are Located in Sydney's Most Historic Buildings
The Fenwick is a tiny 19th century sandstone building on Balmain’s waterfront building, originally used as a tugboat store. It sat dormant for a while and heaps of private development proposals were rejected before the building was finally acquired by the former Leichhardt Council in 2003 (now part of the Inner West Council), thanks to a campaign by local Balmain East residents. But now, after a restoration that cost millions from restaurateur Bill Drakopoulos, The Fenwick has recently reopened to the public as a cafe and gallery.
Check out our favourite Inner West brunch spots
The Fenwick offers one of our favourite brunch locations and is our go-to for special occasions like Mother’s Day. With its sensational views over the harbour to the bridge, you can watch the ferries glide by as you enjoy simple options like Sydney Rock Oysters or Confit Calamari, or mains including Gnocchi or lamb rump. While not a traditional brunch menu during the week, The Fenwick is open for breakfast on weekends, with takeaway coffee and pastries available seven days a week.
Sydney restaurants with incredible views
Set inside an immaculately restored 1880s stone building on the East Balmain waterfront, The Fenwick offers a unique view of the ‘back side’ of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It’s open for lunch and dinner every day, with breakfast served on the weekends, offering a rustic Italian menu that includes housemade pasta and lots of seafood. But it’s hard to go past the whole lamb shoulder, a house specialty, with a red wine reduction and garlic and rosemary potatoes.
