It’s a quiet, rainy morning at Merewether Surfhouse beach in Newcastle. The sand’s still wet, the sky’s grey, and soft waves roll in. Everything feels calm, fresh, and a little dreamy after the rain. #MerewetherBeach #NewcastleMorning #PostRainVibes #OceanCalm #CoastalViews

Reviews Summary

Merewether Surfhouse is celebrated for its stunning beachfront location and fantastic ocean views, making it a popular spot for breakfast and sunset drinks. While the ambiance and views are consistently praised, some diners have noted inconsistencies in food value and service quality. Despite minor criticisms regarding details like salt and pepper packets or occasional undercooked dishes, many find it a worthwhile experience for its unique setting and overall coastal charm.

"What an incredible spot! My recent visit to Merewether Surfhouse was unforgettable. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by stunning beach views and the calming sound of the ocean. We ordered both the fish and the steak, and they were perfectly cooked—flavorful, tender, and absolutely delicious. The service was top-notch as well; everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Being right next to the Merewether Ocean Baths added an extra touch of coastal charm. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that left me with wonderful memories. Highly recommended!"

Dean Long

"Great location with fantastic views. We enjoyed the meal (although one chicken dish was undercooked and chef was made aware). The long table next to us was a party of young women who were very raucous but enjoying themselves. It was a Saturday night, after all!"

Michaela C

"I loved having a glass of wine at sunset on the terrace. What a beautiful Newcastle!

I came here for business, and I really like the city. The walk from Bar beach to this surf house is stunning.

The service at the bar could be better—the guy was a bit rude, but I’ll forgive him. I imagine it’s a matter of age, though at his age, I was a bit kinder.

That said, I really enjoyed the experience overall!"

Food with a view - Visit Newcastle

They say avoid restaurants with spectacular views (more often than not being a tourist trap) however Merewether Surfhouse proves the exception to the rule. Food once took a back seat to the phenomenal vistas where both surfers and dolphins frolic in the rolling waves. Executive chef Ryan Baird and head chef Bryce Harling deliver a thoroughly modern Italian menu with dishes like parmesan crumbed pork cutlet with green apple radicchio and kohlrabi or avocado and crab cannelloni.
