What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tipo 00 is widely praised for its exceptional handmade pasta, featuring perfectly balanced flavors and textures. Diners also appreciate the intimate and charming atmosphere, along with the value for money. However, a few reviews mention inconsistent service and occasional issues with sauce consistency or stray bones in dishes.
"Delicious delicious D E L I C I O U S. A city centre Italian with a quaint interior that has so much character and atmosphere, I truly believe it is one of the best in Melbourne. It's not always easy to get in here during busier periods, but we were lucky enough to rock up on a spontaneous Tuesday evening and got a table.
5 fricken stars all around, this place tipoed me over the edge. They smash the pasta texture wise, and the flavours are super well balanced. There's a healthy portion with some complimentary foccacia with ricotta and pesto oil whacked in for good measure.
We had the braised duck paparadelle, veal ragu mafaldine, and the charred brocollini. Each one is a winner. Honestly, the brocollini with the pasta as well was just fantastic. It's always a little tongue in cheek to say somewhere is the best, but this is certainly up there as one of the best pasta options in Melbourne.
The atmosphere is delightful and the service is not too much, a nice level of attentive, you know what I mean!
Tipo certainly isn't the cheapest bowl of pasta you will find, but it's not breaking the bank and will deliver value for money 100%
Recommended dish: Charred Brocollini. No point recommending a pasta dish as just choose your preference, and I expect it will be great."

"Fantastic place for some serious Italian food cooked with great techniques, the handmade pasta put together with great texture and the well made sauce loaded with flavour and depth just binds together well. The TipOOmisu is one you can’t go past for
Dessert. Wow! Great little place and would highly recommend but ensure bookings are well in advance"

"Came here with three friends to tick this place off our bucket list, arriving right at 5 PM when they opened. We were immediately told to sit outside, as the indoor area was for bookings only — and apparently, you need to book three months in advance. They also suggested we try their sister restaurant next door, even though the place was still empty.
While I was still speaking with one of the servers, another staff member interrupted and told him to “get rid of us and close the door.” At that moment, we felt very unwelcome. The server we initially spoke to was least passive-aggressive.
After checking out the sister restaurant, we decided to come back and sit outside, as we were really keen to try the food. However, throughout our visit, we saw several guests being allowed to dine inside without a booking. One group of four, also without a reservation, spoke to the same server we did. They were initially offered outside seating but, after declining, were told they could return in about an hour to dine inside.
We couldn’t help but notice a clear difference in how other customers were treated compared to our group. The staff seemed noticeably more welcoming and accommodating to others.
When it came time to pay, I went inside to find a server or the cashier. Instead, I was abruptly stopped by another staff member who rudely asked where I was going — as if I was trespassing. I politely explained I was there to settle the bill, and he told me to “go outside and wait for it.”
As for the food: portion sizes were small for the price. The dishes we ordered varied — some were well-seasoned, others overly salty, and most lacked depth of flavour. We also ordered a steak, but no one asked how we wanted it cooked.
Overall, it was a really disappointing experience — especially because of the poor service and the way we were treated. Definitely won’t be coming back or recommending this place to others."
