What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
MAMASITA is praised for its vibrant atmosphere and inventive Mexican cuisine, with the Elote and guacamole being standout dishes. Guests love the friendly service and extensive cocktail menu. However, some find the portion sizes small for the price and note that the restaurant can get quite noisy, potentially impacting the dining experience.
"Very tasty Mexican food that is best for sharing! You must try their grilled corn - salty, spicy, juicy and sweet corn - truly life changing. The burnt cheesecake was delicious, I think the goat cheese helped to reduce the richness. Tacos were equally tasty. Flavours were rich (could be on the salty side though). The staff were really friendly and welcoming the moment we arrived and patiently explained how the sharing menu works. The restaurant's lighting is dim, which is perfect for a romantic date 🤭. Retro vibes, superb food and drinks. People of Melbourne are blessed to have this establishment to dine at. 😍"

"We were greeted at the door with a friendly host and taken to our table by the window, where our server approached with a very warm and friendly attitude. She continued to provide wonderful service. We opted for the chefs menu and were not disappointed. Mexican food elevated to the next level."

"Came here for my wife birthday and we were amazed with the food, service and the vibe. This place is must visit. The staff were polite and knowledgeable but stretched as the place was packed! We loved mushroom tostadas, sweet potatoes and pork belly tacos, however highlight was slow roasted cauliflower! That’s was wow!"

The best Mexican restaurants in Melbourne For Tacos, Ensalada and Enchiladas
The queues that snaked their way up to what used to be the iconic Recorded Music Salon have all but disappeared, but Mamasita remains a trusty go-to, particularly for those with sensitive stomachs who don’t want their Mexican with a side of a belly ache – there’s a dedicated FODMAP menu, and staff are well-versed at serving coeliacs and vegans. After all that time, we’re still digging the cochinita pibil tacos with meltingly soft, slow-roasted pork and burnt tomatillo salsa, the punchy tuna tartare tostaditas, and the perennial Mamasita bestseller of street corn slathered with chipotle mayo, salty queso and lime. The drinks offering has always been strong – the Tamarind Margarita alone is worth its salt (rim), but if the tartness of tamarind isn’t to your liking, take your pick from five other Margaritas, micheladas (Mexican beer with sangrita, lime and salt), wines and a healthy non-alcohol selection.
