You’ve probably seen it all over Instagram- the classic red-lit alleyway with a large neon sign saying ‘ Lucy Liu’ on the back wall, inviting you into a dimly lit and funky warehouse serving up some mouth-watering plates. Lucy offers sample menus of 5 and 7 plates, so you can sample a bit of everything (and stuff yourself to the brim). We recommend the caramelised tofu betel leaf for a truly delectable treat.

On Oliver Lane in Melbourne’s CBD sits Lucy Liu, a pan-Asian eatery in the heart of the city. As you enter, you’ll make your way through its iconic red neon-lit corridor and into the main dining room where you’ll be greeted with an electric atmosphere. Lucy Liu offers classic Asian favourites such as Peking duck dumplings, drunken chicken and pork hock with apple kimchi pancakes and hoisin.

Like Gingerboy, Lucy Liu is an Asian restaurant, so the chance of dishes containing nuts is quite high. I also took a bit of a gamble by just rocking up on their doorstep one weekend for lunch with no booking and no prior warning that I had food allergies. But this was no issue – Lucy Liu has a separate menu printed that outlines which menu items are suitable for different food allergies.

It's fitting that the restaurant with the same name as an actor loves pre-theatre dining. Happily taking bookings from as early as 4.30pm, Lucy Liu can also accommodate walk-ins. For the Comedy Festival, the kitchen are offering a special of line-caught local snapper served sashimi-style with kombu soy and a 2 Brothers rice lager ($24).
