When Fico’s Federica Andrisani and Oskar Rossi (ex- Vue De Monde) opened Pitzi, meaning 'little one', it was ostensibly an opportunity for the pair to be more experimental in a casual setting. The intimate spot is both communal (try and nab a spot at the big table) and also a great option for a romantic date. They start slinging pasta, spritzes and slabs of focaccia from 4pm, with an ever-evolving and well-curated menu.

This petite pasta bar is a younger, more casual sibling to the aforementioned Fico, with a decidedly more playful and carefree menu but an upmarket twist: think cassata (Sicilian cake) ice cream sandwiches, fried cubes of spaghetti carbonara, pasta alfredo with Tassie truffles, devilled eggs and a vanilla yogurt sundae with strawberry sorbet. And in true Fico style, all the pasta are, of course, handmade. Linger over a long Friday lunch at Pitzi’s communal table, a glass of Tamar Valley’s pet nat in hand, or drop in for date night, pulling up a pew at the cosy bar counter.

From the team at Fico comes their relaxed pasta, focaccia and Chianti bar, Pitzi. You can expect a rotating menu of four main pastas, such as fusilloni paired with a wild venison sauce in white wine and butter, or a simple yet rich Fettuccine Alfredo topped with shaved black truffle. Other offerings include a baked timballo with Neapolitan ragù and eggplant, while desserts are straightforward, featuring items like Tongola cheese, coffee granita, or poached apricots from the owners' backyard, served with vanilla gelato.

The seasonal menu is a beauty, starring tubettini in a Parmesan fondue with pullet yolk and guanciale crunch, spaghetti aglio e olio with Moreton Bay bug tail, and fusilloni tangled in game ragù. Don’t skip the coffee granita with fernet caramel, and you’ll need to have one or two cocktails as well, just sayin’.

Despite the casual recipes, these won’t just remain favorites of Italians, but will also become favorites of the locals. Because what’s better than handmade pasta and the right vibes?. The focus here is pasta but there are plenty of very good reasons to order entirely from the top half of the menu if that’s where you’re at. Pull up a stool at one of the speckled terrazzo countertops and explore the snacks: a few slices of fennel salami with quail eggs and pickles, maybe, or an oblong of crisp pork belly seasoned with porchetta spice.

If you want to live la dolce vita, then try the pasta bar dining at Pitzi. From sea urchin spaghetti to crispy pork belly with porcetta spice and sorrel, there’s a savoury or sweet dish to suit all. Whilst there is not a kids’ menu, chef is always happy to prepare a fresh pasta al pomodoro for the bambini.

: It can get quite busy during peak seasons, and sometimes you’ll have another group waiting for your table. We also found it to be a bit more expensive for a pasta bar, but it is very good food. Ambience and setting: This laid-back pasta bar is what dreams are made of.
