If you believe that a great coffee is the cornerstone of every decent breakfast then this knockabout café on Salamanca Square will suit you perfectly. The novelty of being part of a working laundromat seems a bit redundant – all the machines were empty when I ate there. The café’s popularity is not entirely due to the quality of the coffee beans – the food is pretty tasty too.

Tricycle is cute, with yummy baked eggs, and Machine Laundry cafe at Salamanca Place has great coffee. It’s both a laundromat and a cafe (hence the name) and also looks out on to a giant chess set in the square if you fancy a game between rinse cycles.

As its name suggests, this place is half cafe, half laundromat, and while I attacked my bacon and eggs, people did actually shuffle in to the laundromat side, stick their coins into washing machines and do their laundry. Great selection of brunch and lunch options: muesli, french toast, banana and ricotta hotcakes, eggs - various styles, fruit toast, muffins, three bears porridge (poached pear with a swirl of blueberry coulis & toasted almonds...yum!), parmesan and pancetta pancakes, & specialty egg dishes, burgers, soup, salads, & the famous 'fat boy' - roti bread wrap with grilled chicken, bacon, tomato, ice burg lettuce & spicy peanut sauce .

Once you’ve got back to the city, grab yourself some breakfast at Machine Laundry Cafe or the famous Jackman & McRoss and slowly stroll towards the preserved town of Battery Point, a quaint suburb with cottages, cute roundabouts and historical landmarks. Go shopping on Liverpool street, roam around Elizabeth Street Pier and if you love ciders, visit Willie Smiths Apple Shed in Huon Valley (30 minutes from the city) for lunch and a refreshing cider!. End the day with dinner at Frank’s, an Argentinian restaurant with great steaks and even better vegetable side dishes.

It might seem an odd combination at first glance, but this coin laundromat/hipster cafe has become a smash hit on Hobart’s cafe scene. Located right by buzzing Salamanca Square, a stone’s throw from the popular Saturday Salamanca Market, the Machine Laundry Cafe is full of bright colours, quirky features, creative menu items, and arguably Hobart’s most generously oversized muffins, baked goods and bucket coffees. In addition to tasty eggs benedict and pancakes, not to mention more-than-decent coffee, it is actually also a working laundry service operator.

Sandwiched in a corner of restaurant-heavy Salamanca Square, it is an ever-popular café serving up fresh food… and fresh clothes. Although, it appears to be an unusual combination, this Hobart laundrette, Machine Laundry Cafe, is a food junction that has been serving witty, inventive breakfast dishes to a crowd of fans. You will find the egg and bacon standards with innovative dishes like wonderful parmesan, spinach pancakes, caramelized onion and the Mental Lentil, which is a pide roll with spiced vegetable and lentil pattie and salad.

Found just a touch away from Salamanca Market, Machine Laundry Cafe is all about bright lights, good food, even better coffee and, interestingly, finding the cure to your hangover. This place is quirky and fun and the team behind this Battery Point establishment truly reflect this. Modern and delicious, their menu includes the likes of Parmesan and Pancetta Pancakes, Eggs Florentine with caramelised onions and granola bowls that are mouth-watering and fun to spoon through.

If the pick went to me I'd give it to Pigeon Hole, with Villino Espresso coming a very close second (and the monte carlo I had there was just delicious - who needs a real breakfast?). With a special mention to Zest the Library Cafe because they gave me the kick I needed.

Although we didn’t do our laundry when we visited, I can happily report that their breakfast menu is something worth checking out. We ordered the eggs benedict and the Machine Packed roti bread which included scrambled eggs served with chilli jam.
