What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Yamagen is lauded for its innovative Japanese cuisine, exceptional service, and vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular spot for special occasions. While many praise the delicious food and attentive staff, some diners find the portions small for the price, leading to a feeling of it being overpriced.
"Had a baby with us. They put us in an area where I have space for pram. Food is great as always. And there’s enough things around to entertain a baby - bring them to the hibachi, or the big led screen outside. It’s a good fine dining place to have special occasion in. We got a free dessert as we’re celebrating a birthday."

"Situated in the QT building, I found this restaurant after a Google search & I’m happy I did.
The service was exceptional - big shout out to David who was our waiter for the evening, he was very knowledgeable, patient & kind.
Our meals came out very quickly & all dishes were delicious - to say the least.
We started with the Gyoza’s 🥟 these were very fresh & tasty, followed by the eggplant dish 🍆 which were to die for (fav veg) they literally melted in your mouth, the texture was so smooth & scrumptious.
The lamb cutlets were also so tantalisingly soft & delicious.
We finished with the roast duck & chicken dishes, these were 👌🏾
Could not fault our meals or the service, the restaurant had a beautiful authentic Japanese aesthetic & vibe.
I highly recommend a visit if you love Japanese cuisine.
The highlight of our night however was the complimentary dessert dish (panna cotta) they bought out as we were celebrating my husband’s birthday 🎂 We were very appreciative for this.
Thank you so much for the outstanding hospitality, we will be back next week are in the area 💛"

"The food and service were both excellent, and the atmosphere was quite nice as well. We were staying at the hotel just above the restaurant, and luckily managed to get a table right away after making a same-day reservation.
my companions had the steak and was extremely impressed — they couldn’t stop recommending it, and I’d have to agree it was outstanding.
There was just one thing that stood out: when it came time to pay, the staff brought the card machine over and personally skipped the tipping screen before handing it to me. I found that a little surprising — maybe the wages and benefits here are good enough that tips aren’t expected? (Kidding! Your service really was great — thank you!)"
