I was convinced that nothing could convert me from being a hard core thin and crispy pizza base lover… until I headed to too cool for school Grease Monkey and discovered their Detroit style slabs of thick based pizza perfection. Their 8 Mile – topped with bacon, prawns, jalapenos, basil, cheese blend and a vodka sauce – was the stuff of pizza fantasy and I had to beat the family off to get more slices. Then there’s their juicy burgers, succulent fried chicken, addictive truffle mac and cheese bites, and jalapeño poppers that had the boys swooning.

Grease Monkey is located on the busy Lonsdale Street in Braddon, which used to be the auto central of Canberra before it became Canberra's most industrially hip and modern strip of cafes. Grease Monkey is located inside an old mechanics shed that has been renovated and is now a popular place to simply "hang out" and enjoy the big burgers and American-style fried chicken on offer. At the time of writing there are DJ's on Friday and Saturday night, so you can relax with dinner and finish off the night with a New York Cheesecake or Banana Split.
