We returned to Courgette today, and wow—did they pull out all the stops! After our visit last week, we provided some feedback, which was welcomed with genuine openness and transparency. This time, we had the five-course menu again, giving them the perfect opportunity to shine—and they absolutely did.
The standout dishes:
• Lamb – Simply superb. The depth of flavor was on another level, making it incomparable to our last visit. Honestly, this dish alone made the day!
• Quail – A tough act to follow after the lamb, but still an excellent dish in its own right.
• Prawn – A special grilled prawn dish was prepared just for us, and let’s just say the only thing left was the plate.
• Grade 8 Steak – This one gave the lamb a real run for its money. Rich, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor—it was nearly impossible to pick a winner between the two.
If I could personally hand out Michelin stars, Courgette would be getting one. The team’s dedication to excellence, their willingness to take on feedback, and their passion for delivering an outstanding dining experience are truly commendable. Today was nothing short of fantastic!

"We had an extremely good birthday lunch here today. I thought the beef cheek, the scallops and the lamb dishes were extremely tasty and well cooked but really everything was very good. There was ample food in the 3 course degustation. I had two wonderful glasses of wine: a 2020 Sergi ‘seductive’ basket pressed Shiraz and a 2023 Juniper Three Fields Chardonnay. It was a horrible day but we felt toasty-warm inside. The staff were lovely. I think James Mussillon served us himself - which was a treat.

Tucked away on the outskirts of Civic (the city centre) is Courgette – my favourite restaurant in Canberra. Full disclosure here – my brother and his wife manage this modern European fine-dining restaurant, but I can safely tell you that I’m not the only person who thinks Courgette is special – it’s regularly cited by food critics as one of the best restaurants in the city and is part of an elite group of Canberra restaurants to have a Chef’s Hat (the Australian equivalent of a Michelin Star). Bucking the trend for casual dining, Courgette is 100% a fine-dining experience with executive chef James Mussillon (who trained with Marco Pierre White) at the helm – and I say ‘experience’ because at Courgette, there is a set degustation menu (and a set price of $88) of four courses (choose from four options per course) that gets rolled out at a beautiful pace.
