If you’re anything like me, leaving the house with a 10 month old baby feels like a whole mission 😅 but honestly, nights like this make it worth it. 🥰 We went to the Prawn Star Barron River food festival in Cairns and Miah was so chill! 🥹💕 The food, the music, the energy, everything was so good. So glad we didn’t rain check, even though it ended up raining.🌧 Sometimes the best memories come from t...

Reviews Summary

Prawn Star offers an exceptionally fresh seafood experience with a unique dining setting on repurposed trawlers. Diners rave about the quality and quantity of the seafood, particularly the oysters, prawns, and salmon sashimi, and the lively communal atmosphere. While some wish for more varied hot dishes or accompaniments, the overall consensus is a highly recommended, authentic taste of local seafood.

"Great atmosphere and good fun. Menu was small just prawns, bugs and oysters. Drink list also small. $130 seafood platter is good for 2-3 person. All the seafood was very fresh and yummy. If they could just provide some hot dishes like pastas. It would have been perfect."

"What a great restaurant. It's actually hard to call it that because it's composed of three boats but it's a perfect venue for eating seafood.
The marina setting was lovely, especially as the sun started to set. We sat at a communal table as the hostess we spoke to was able to fit us in there given we had no reservation, but more private options are available. I would suggest that a booking is fairly vital. One of the boats houses the open kitchen and I always like to see open kitchens.
The staff were lovely and looked after us well. The seafood was absolutely stellar! We had the jumbo platter and it was excellent and great value. Fresh oysters, prawns, bugs and salmon, what could be better?
While there we spoke to a couple of locals who were eating there and they all agreed it was the best local seafood. There's nothing like a local recommendation...
Well be back in Cairns soon and I think we'll be visiting again before we leave.
Cheers and enjoy"

"Fresh, Authentic, and Unforgettable

Straight onto the boat to eat from straight off the boat — it doesn’t get fresher than this. Don’t expect anything beyond crustaceans and incredible salmon sashimi, but that’s exactly the point. Everything is straight from the morning’s catch, prepared to order, and best enjoyed with a cold beer, cider, or glass of wine.

The menu may be simple, but the experience is anything but. Dining on the boat with views of private yachts, the ocean, and ships drifting into port is something special. Shared tables give it a communal vibe, yet it still feels intimate with your own group. Prices are great too.

We’ve been here twice now on return visits to Port Douglas — and we’ll be back again!

PS. I’ve given 4 stars for no reason other than a good crispy lettuce salad would go great as an accompaniment - but maybe the experts (seafood mongers may not agree!!) keeping this place authentic & simple to its delicious seafood."

Now moored at Cairns Marlin Marina, the restaurant enjoys calming views across the water and a chance to experience Queensland’s fishing heritage.
