Reviews Summary

Bayleaf Balinese Restaurant is praised for its authentic and bold flavors, with many highlighting the delicious grilled fish, BBQ ribs, and flavorful curries. Diners appreciate the tropical atmosphere and friendly service. However, some reviews mention slow service, bland dishes, and issues with food temperature or overcooking, suggesting inconsistency.

"Delicious food, I had the grilled fish with a tomatoey, soy sauce and rice and it has to be my favourite meal of my holiday! Absolutely brilliant!! Cocktails were also really good and the staff were amazing, would highly recommend!"

Beatons Tearooms

"Probably the best Balinese food I’ve had outside of Bali. The flavours were bold, authentic, and well-executed. We especially enjoyed the skewers and pork ribs, which came out on a small grill that kept them hot throughout the meal—a nice touch that added to the experience. The mixed seafood with yellow rice was also a standout, with a great balance of spice and freshness.

The only downside was that the grill continued to cook the food as we ate, so by the end of the meal, some items—particularly the skewers—became a bit overcooked and tough.

The minced duck parcels and prawn bean salad were just okay. Not bad, but compared to the other dishes, they didn’t stand out and we’d probably skip them next time.

Overall, a great spot for Balinese food with some real highlights. Would definitely return for the grilled dishes and seafood"

"Fast, friendly service. Food was amazing and Balinese surroundings. It is a bit expensive but money well spent, you get very generous portions. I highly recommend recommend this restaurant"

16 Best Restaurants in Cairns to Put on Your Radar

Sweet, salty, sour, spicy – the classic flavours of Bali make sense in tropical Cairns. At Bayleaf, the menu evokes balmy island evenings, the air redolent of spice and smoke. Try classics such as ayam sagur (poached chicken salad with peanuts, mango, beans, coriander, mint and coconut dressing), nasi goreng (Balinese fried rice with fried egg) and bebek betutu (twice-cooked whole duck in banana leaf).

Bayleaf can be easily overlooked on a trip to Cairns as it’s away from the main strip, halfway down Lake Street. Unlike most Aussies, I still haven’t been to Bali, but using my well-seasoned snout from many years living in Southeast Asia (including Malaysia), I’d say it probably doesn’t get more authentic than this. We also saw regular Indonesian diners, which is always a good sign.
