Reviews Summary

El Cuartito is an iconic Buenos Aires pizzeria known for its legendary fugazzeta and classic, no-frills ambiance. While many rave about the pizza and the nostalgic atmosphere filled with sports memorabilia, some diners have noted inconsistent quality and less-than-attentive service. Be prepared for a potential wait, but the unique experience and flavorful pizza are often worth it.

"Was recommend this place and it lived up to the hype. Fugazetta is a must have if you love cheese. It's a thicker crust but I loved it.

Really like that they sell many of the pizzas by the slice as a solo traveller as the pizzas look massive!

Atmosphere is buzzing. Lots of football bits on the walls if that's your thing. Really enjoyed it. A great stop for anyone passing by!"

StepASidexx

"Good pizza. I will not complain and would come back. But won't go out of the way. If you want to eat in, you may have to wait 1/2 hour or more."

Adrian Kov

"This was our second pizza restaurant visit. And again we selected a place that had 35K+ reviews and even older since 1936! Just wonder how they are managing to survive for over 90 years with the quality we experienced.

The waiter was totally disinterested to the extent where his body language felt like "really, you want to eat here?". We order a half bottle of Malbec, two slices of pizzas and an empanada. Just like the other place, the empanada was nothing to talk about. The Fugazza was bland and hardly any cheese with very little onions. The Fugazzeta with ham and tomato was much better. On the way out we noticed the whole Fugazetta pies which seemed to be loaded with cheese and nice charred onions. I wonder when you order slices, you get the poor versions.

We asked for the "La Cuenta" (the check) and it never came and our Spanish is not poor. Then we found that when you pay by credit card, you have to go to the cashier. Not an issue, if the lazy waiter had bothered to tell us that.

Not a place I would go back to."

This iconic pizza parlor is frequented by porteños who worship the pies topped with fresh tomato sauce and a mile-high pile of oozing mozzarella. Every square inch of wall space is dedicated to memorabilia of sports legends, musicians, tango dancers, and actors, and every local has their cherished dining spot. The best pizza is the classic mitad-mitad, or half and half—one side a straightforward tomato sauce and cheese, the other swimming with anchovies.

As well as the steakhouse, there is another quintessential BA experience – the no-frills pizza restaurant. Dating back to 1934, this classic haunt is dressed up like an Argentinian-themed diner (white-and-celeste flags, football memorabilia, photos of old tango crooners). Argentina may be founded on Italian immigration, but it does pizza its own way: thick bready base, easy on the tomato, oozing with mozzarella.

The Italian influence in Buenos Aires is very strong and that can be seen, among other things, in the number of pizzerias that exist in the city. There is a lot of pica between the Italian pizza and the Argentine version pizza and the porteños love to say that their pizza is much better than that of the Italians. “El cuartito” is one of the great exponents of pizza in Buenos Aires and many think it is the best pizzeria in the country.

El Cuartito is 5 blocks from Guerrin and Avenida Corrientes but if you make the walk (walking off all that pizza along the way), you’ll pass the beautiful Teatro Colon, so it’s not so bad. El Cuartito was opened in 1934 in a literal “cuartito”, tiny room, with a window to the street where they served up pizza by the slice. Today, if you order a slice they often don’t even charge you until you’re finished eating.
