What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise the center's striking architecture and its role as a free cultural stop within the Old Quarter, highlighting its rotating art exhibitions and unique artisan products. However, some reviews mention disappointing experiences with staff attitudes and unclear, inconsistently enforced rules regarding photography and dress code, leading to a less welcoming atmosphere for some. Reddit

"Hidden gem! I visited recently during a paper making exhibition.
Lovely products for sale including papers, books and watercolor blocks. Many other offerings for handmade soaps and teas. Friendly vendors and spacious interior. Can't wait to see what events are coming up."

Colette Govan

"Great historical venue with many photographs exhibition and building itself it’s worth of visiting"

Chienyun Cheng

"I’ve visited many art museums and cultural centers in different countries, but my experience at 22 Hàng Buồm Culture and Arts Center was quite disappointing.

First, there were unexpected restrictions that were not communicated upfront. Nowhere on the signs or before purchasing tickets did it mention that analog cameras were prohibited. When I started taking pictures, a security guard stopped me, claiming that analog cameras were not allowed—despite the fact that I was actually using a digital camera, not an analog one. Rather than arguing, I simply complied, but it felt unnecessary and arbitrary.

Second, the attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. When buying tickets, the staff member was unfriendly and seemed like she had no interest in being there. Additionally, there were no posted dress code rules, yet she was oddly aggressive about our clothing. I wore a dress with a coat—nothing inappropriate for a cultural center—but her reaction made the whole interaction uncomfortable.

Finally, the space itself was quite small and restrictive, which, combined with the unexplained limitations, made the visit feel unwelcoming. We took a short walk around but left quickly because it wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

Overall, transparency and professionalism are important for a cultural center, and this place unfortunately lacked both. If they have specific rules, they should be clearly stated in advance, not enforced randomly by unfriendly staff."
