What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diep Son Island offers a unique natural spectacle with its famous sandbar, fresh seafood, and tranquil atmosphere. While some visitors find the facilities basic and the speedboat rides bumpy, many appreciate the opportunity to disconnect and experience a simpler island life. The sandbar's visibility can vary, so checking tide times is crucial for the full experience.
"Nha Trang area has many beautiful beaches & islands, some of them popular with visitors. Diep Son Island is more known to locals but as a foreign traveler, here is my experience both good and bad.
Getting to the island is only via speedboat. The jetty at that time was under some kind of upgrading construction, therefore dusty and hard to push your luggage bags through the dirt. Speedboat service has life jackets, but the driver was too fast and when hitting the waves at high speeds, the ride was really bumpy.
As it's a small island, there are limited activities you can do here - probably only swim & kayak. There are a few areas which are nice for those Instagram shots. I'd say, it's more of a relaxed island and you can take this opportunity to disconnect from civilization.
All of the meals are provided by the island operator if you choose to eat here on a day trip or staying overnight. I really love the food as they serve fresh seafood like oysters, snails, lobsters, squid, etc.
The entire island runs on solar power & rainwater. At certain times of the day, power is cut for the solar batteries to recharge. Water for shower is there at the central restaurant or at the chalets. The toilets are basic, don't expect luxury.
If you choose to stay here overnight, I need to prepare you what to expect. The island operator was granted a lease by the government to develop the island and they have done so at their own cost. They have built chalets which run on gasoline generators and at night, power to the lights & fans may be cut. There is no air-conditioning, so you're basically living like how it was before air-conditioning was invented when you get the natural breeze & sounds of the waves.
Diep Son Island has its charms & limitations. I'd say come here with an open mind and soak in the experience without any demanding expectations, you would love to enjoy this place."

"You may heard about Diep Son via the image of sand roads connecting 3 islands.
Well, it's not there anymore. Diep Son, at the time I went there, can allow you to see only a small part of sand road, and it connected to no other island. Things were different in the past when we can all see it clear and even walk on it.
Guide said to see full road nowaday, we need to go here around 4-5 AM in the morning, when tides at lowest."

"Rather disappointing. Dirty, no swimming beach here, few facilities, average food at the island and only attraction is you can walk to another island during low tide - better walk knee deep in another place"
