What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Bach Ma National Park for its stunning natural beauty, fresh air, and the refreshing experience of swimming in its lakes. The park's historical remnants and opportunities for birdwatching are also highly appreciated. Some travelers found the park's management focused on revenue, particularly regarding private transfers, but the overall consensus is that it's a worthwhile escape into nature.
"Came here by scooter as a (half) day trip from Hue. Arrived at national park gate by 11am, took a private car according to their route (you cannot choose) and I was back at the gate by 3pm, without stopping for lunch, as I had a banh mi with me and ate it while waiting for the car. It was a good experience, scenery is beautiful and air is fresh. The highlight was the 5 lakes trail and the swim in lake #3 which felt like paradise!"

"It was an amazibg experience. Prepare good shoes and repellent :) cause u will have to walk through the forest a lot (if you will do hiking)"
Linh Lili
"Bach Ma Nationalpark is known as a paradise for bird lovers. As I wanted to see as many bird species as possible in one day, I booked a tour with Luc Nguyen, one of the best professional bird guides in Vietnam. It was an incredible birding tour with Vietnam Eco Tours.
We spotted a lot of birds f.e. orange bellied leafbird, golden throated barbet, blue whistling thrush etc. Luckily we also saw a family of stumped-tailed macaque and we were even able to catch a brief glimpse of the Red Shanked Douc Langur.
At the ending of the day, we took the adventure trail to visit the five lakes. The trail itself was not challenging. Mind your steps cause the stones might be slippery while crossing the river. It is advisable to wear shoes with good grip. Luc himself wore plastic slippers ;) You can be sure that your feet will get wet after the trek. If the weather and time permit, you can also swim in the lakes.
The weather conditions vary constantly during the day (foggy, sunny, rainy and humid etc), so don't forget to bring a poncho, sun glass, insect repellent, change of clothes etc.
The driver was really excellent. We felt very well looked after during the trip.
Thanks for the unforgettable day in Bach Ma Nationalpark ❤️
July 2024, weekday, (unfortunately only) day trip"

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking a guided tour that caters to families, as guides can keep children engaged with stories about the park's nature and history. The History of Bach Ma Hill Station
However, this period of grandeur was relatively short-lived. In the 1950s, the area became a site of significant conflict during the war with the Viet Minh soldiers. Following Vietnam's independence from the French, Bach Ma was largely forgotten, and its once-grand villas were abandoned to the encroaching jungle. Today, these remnants of the past stand as poignant reminders of its history, adding a unique layer of exploration for visitors interested in more than just nature.
Despite its decline as a colonial resort, Bach Ma's appeal as a summer retreat for Vietnamese seeking cooler temperatures persists. At an elevation of 1250 meters, the park continues to offer a refreshing escape. The blend of natural beauty and historical ruins makes Bach Ma a compelling destination for those seeking a multifaceted experience.
Birdwatching and Wildlife Encounters
Beyond birds, the park is also home to other fascinating wildlife. Visitors have reported seeing families of stump-tailed macaques and even catching glimpses of the elusive Red Shanked Douc Langur. These encounters add an element of wild discovery to the park's natural allure.
To enhance your wildlife viewing experience, consider visiting during the early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active. Remember to maintain a respectful distance and avoid disturbing the natural habitats. Bringing binoculars and a good field guide can significantly enrich your observation opportunities.
Exploring the Five Lakes Trail
Be prepared for a trek that involves navigating through the forest, and be mindful of your footing as the stones can be slippery, particularly when crossing rivers. While the trail itself is not overly challenging, wearing shoes with good grip is highly recommended. Some visitors have opted for water shoes or even plastic slippers, as getting your feet wet is almost a certainty.
If weather and time permit, taking a dip in these natural pools is a highly rewarding experience. The journey to and from the lakes offers beautiful scenery, making it a memorable part of any visit to Bach Ma.
