Reviews Summary

Cayo Sombrero is lauded as a stunning tropical paradise with crystal-clear blue waters and soft white sand, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors rave about its natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere, though some note issues with litter and noise from boats on the south side. Weekday visits are recommended for a more peaceful experience.

"Morrocoy National Park is easily one of the most beautiful beach destinations in the world! 🏝️🇻🇪
The water is crystal clear, the sand is powdery white, and the views are straight out of a postcard.

Cayo Sombrero is a must-visit—gorgeous, relaxing, and perfect for swimming or just laying back under the palm trees. You can hop between other cayos too, but Sombrero is definitely a favorite.

If you’re looking for a tropical paradise without the crazy crowds, this is it. 100% recommended!"

Rafa

"Cayo Sombrero is a stunning destination located approximately 9 kilometers from Chichiriviche and 12 kilometers from Tucacas. During my visit, I had the opportunity to snorkel on the north side of the key, where I observed an abundance of marine life, including coral. It was truly a memorable experience!

For those planning to visit, I recommend bringing your own chairs and umbrellas if you want to stay close to the shore. Alternatively, you can relax under the shade of the palm trees—just be cautious of falling coconuts!

While the natural beauty is undeniable, there are some issues worth noting. Like other keys in the area, there is a noticeable amount of litter scattered across the sand. Despite the presence of park rangers, many visitors do not use the available trash bins, which is disappointing.

On the south side of the key, there are often boats anchored with loud music, and the smell of fuel can be quite strong. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing experience, I highly recommend visiting on a weekday rather than a weekend, as it tends to be quieter and more enjoyable.

Overall, Cayo Sombrero is a fantastic spot for nature lovers, but it’s important to come prepared and be mindful of the environment. With a little more care from visitors, this place could be even more perfect!"

"A most beautiful, relaxing, natural and affordable beach trip we had here. The Eastern side of the island seemed more relaxing and serene.

Most folks use boats to get here. We camped with cold cuts, sandwiches, Polar Beer, water, and Aniversario Pompero Rum!

We left Caracas in the late morning, and reached the town of Tucacas by about 1PM. We were approached by about 15 kids (some with wheel barrows all wanting to transport our luggage from the vehicle to the boats at a cost of about 50 cents! We hired 2.

Once on the boat we hired (on the spot), it took us about 17 minutes to reach the island. Arriving on the South side of the island. We packed in to cross the island, a National Beach Park, and viewed the light, incoming waves. The water on the North side, coming in gently, was behind a long, protected coral reef.

This breathtaking view of the reef in the Southern Caribbean Sea was just that! We had a big tent, plenty of supplies, rum, and lots of sun block. Nights can be quite cool so I even had a hoodie for some reason.

NOTE: Americans going to this attraction may hit some road-blocks if the traveler doesn’t speak Spanish. Keep in mind the central government is not exactly democratic or favoring us “away” people; rather totalitarian. Watch your back Ps & Q’s. Have a plan, consider a guide, and be a little picky with whom you speak. Plan Ahead!

The water is warm, soothing and serene. It’s wonderful to roll out of a tent and slide into the reef-protected,lapping warm Sea. Snorkeling is abundant. Remember that the coral is LIVE, and you may find yourself above a pile of coral in shallow water. Live coral will cut you, so fair warning.

We used to call the Sun “treasonous,” due to its’ hyper-intensity. If you’re not applying sun-block cream every 2-3 hours, expect a huge Dermatologist bill!

The Blue arrows on the map photo marks our spot and beach. I’m not sure how popular this beach park has become, so try to visit (if possible) at “low tourist or shoulder season.”

We spent 3-4 days there, met some very nice locals and boated back to Tucacas with our gear.

Wonderful experience."
